“My child listens to everyone…just not me.”

That hurts deeply for so many parents.

But often…it’s not rejection.

It’s emotional safety.

Teens push back most at home because home is the safest place for them to express frustration, emotions, and independence.

That does NOT mean connection is lost.

And the answer is usually not more control.

It’s more connection.

✨ Lead with curiosity instead of correction.✨ Listen to understand instead of react.✨ Create emotional safety before expecting openness.

Because when teens feel heard…they slowly begin listening too.

Save this for the hard parenting days 🤍

One of the hardest parts of parenting teens is staying calm when they emotionally shut down.

Most parents instinctively push harder because disconnection feels scary.

But pressure often creates more withdrawal.

Teenagers usually open up when they feel emotionally safe — not emotionally cornered.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can say is:

“I’m here when you’re ready.”

Save this for the next hard parenting moment.

So many parents are trying to manage behavior without understanding what’s happening underneath it.

Teenagers often communicate stress through withdrawal, irritability, shutdown, or defensiveness.

That does not excuse hurtful behavior.

But understanding behavior differently changes how we respond to it.

And connection almost always creates more lasting change than fear.

Save this for the next hard parenting moment. 🤍

I went in to disconnect from the world…
and realized how much I was disconnected from myself.

10 days of silence stripped everything down—
no distractions, no reactions, just awareness.

Coming back with less noise,
more presence,
and a deeper understanding of what really matters.

Now the real practice begins.

We often mistake stillness for resistance.
And lack of action for lack of motivation.

But children rarely shut down because they don’t care.

They shut down because something inside them feels too big to hold.

When we slow down our interpretation,
we begin to see what is actually happening underneath the behavior.

And that changes everything.

Not the child.
The way we meet the Child

You think your child isn’t listening…

So you repeat.
You push.
You explain more.

And they?
Shut down even harder.

Now you’re frustrated…
and they’re checked out.

Here’s what most parents don’t realize:

👉 When a child feels pressured, their brain goes into defense mode.

That’s when you get:
“I don’t care.”
Silence.
Eye rolls.
Walking away.

Not because they don’t care…

Because they feel overwhelmed.

✨ Try this instead:

“Something about this feels hard for you right now.”

That one sentence:
âś” lowers resistance
âś” builds connection
âś” opens the door for cooperation

No power struggle required.
