๐โค๏ธ What a wonderful way to wrap up our Literature-Based Cooking Camp!
This week, our young chefs brought The Little Red Hen to life by baking delicious fresh bread from scratch. From measuring and mixing ingredients to watching the dough rise and smelling fresh bread baking, children experienced firsthand how cooking brings stories to life while building valuable math, science, and fine motor skills.
To connect the story to the real world, our campers also planted seeds, learning that just like the Little Red Hen, growing food takes patience, care, and hard work. It was a wonderful hands-on way to explore where our food comes from while reinforcing the story's message about responsibility and perseverance.
After baking, we strengthened our literacy skills by sequencing the events of the story and retelling what happened from beginning to end. We also talked about the important lesson of The Little Red Henโthe value of helping others, working together, and taking pride in a job well done.
To top it all off, our campers created adorable handprint hens, giving them a special keepsake to remember one of our favorite stories. Every activity encouraged creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and a love of reading in a fun, hands-on way.
From planting seeds to baking fresh bread, sequencing the story, and creating keepsake art, our campers discovered that learning is even sweeter when everyone works together. It was the perfect ending to a week filled with delicious recipes, memorable stories, laughter, and meaningful learning experiences.
๐พ๐๐ At Apple Creek Preschool, we believe the best learning happens when children can read it, grow it, make it, taste it, and create it!
