Most piano programs hand everyone the same method book and assume the same pace. At Centre for Musical Minds, we start with our student, whether that's you or your child. We begin with curiosity, natural strengths and how each person learns, then we build their unique path from there.

Degrees aren't just about a piece of paper. It's about what the training and experience going through those degrees actually gives to you, or your child.

Advanced degrees usually mean a teacher has been trained to diagnose why something isn't working, not just point the mistake out. It means they've studied how people (kids and adults) actually learn. Then we apply it to the music. And it means these teachers can see three years down the road, pacing you or your child toward pieces and goals a less-trained teacher wouldn't even know to aim for.

Communication matters, of course. A teacher your child likes showing up on a weekly basis for, is huge. But real expertise is what turns "taking lessons" into "becoming a musician." And our goal at CMMl is to create and guide lifelong musicians.

Our student Kavin, created this cool A section for his original composition project. 🎹🎶 He brought the rhythm and the melody and Miss Kristin helped with some simple chords. At CMM, our philosophy is that creativity and self expression should be part of the music lesson experience, but it’s often the first thing to be sacrificed because of time. This year we prioritized it! 💥 Can’t wait to hear ALL of the students in October for our fall recitals featuring ONLY student created music. 🎉💜🎶

With all of our students being focused on creating their own music this fall, I woke up with this cord progression in my head… I feel a new piece emerging as we end this month of August. This month also marks four years since I lost my cocker spaniel who I had for 17 1/2 years. My little side kick that went to the school with me for 14 of those years! 🐶Maybe this little reflection was a gift from her? She loved music 💜🎹 - Kristin pianolessons

Do you want your child to actually look forward to piano practice? A few small changes at home can make a big difference! 🎹

Set up the space. A bright, clutter-free spot near the piano (not stuck in a random corner) signals that music matters.

Check the comfort basics! Forearms level, wrists relaxed, feet supported. A student who is uncomfortable won't want to sit still and focus.

Keep materials close. Books, pencils and assignment binder all in one place means practice can start right away...no searching required.

Schedule it like homework! Even 10 minutes a day, at a consistent time, beats waiting for a "free moment" that never comes.

Show up as their audience! You don't need to play an instrument yourself. Just sitting with them for a few minutes and asking "what's the tricky part today?" means more than you'd think. Or even a "show me what you learned today" when they get home from their lesson.

The goal isn't perfection. It's building a rhythm where music feels like a natural part of the day, not a chore. 🎶

Want the full guide?

Your child’s piano motivation grows at home — not just in lessons. The space, routine, and support you create shape their progress and joy.
