🎬 Big congratulations to SHS alum Jesse Busnardo, Class of 2026!

Jesse took home 1st place for Best High School Film at this weekend’s Breck Film Festival for his film, “mm/dd/yy.” Jesse flew home from Chapman University in Los Angeles to celebrate the honor with his family and friends at the Riverwalk Center on Saturday night.

The film stars Jesse’s own mom and dad in a fictitious and hilarious story about a husband struggling to remember a very important date—one that could make or break his mortgage and his marriage!

“mm/dd/yy” also took 1st place at SHS’s Tigerfest in May and was the film Jesse submitted as part of his application to Chapman University’s film school. Talk about a film on a winning streak!

Congratulations, Jesse! The Summit School District community is excited to see where your creativity and filmmaking take you next. 🎥🐯

🎬 ¡Muchísimas felicidades a Jesse Busnardo, antiguo alumno de SHS de la promoción de 2026!

Jesse se llevó el primer premio a la mejor película de instituto en el Festival de Cine de Breck celebrado este fin de semana por su película «mm/dd/yy». Jesse volvió a casa desde la Universidad Chapman de Los Ángeles para celebrar este reconocimiento con su familia y amigos en el Riverwalk Center el sábado por la noche.

La película está protagonizada por los propios padres de Jesse y cuenta una historia ficticia y divertidísima sobre un marido que se esfuerza por recordar una fecha muy importante, ¡una que podría decidir el futuro de su hipoteca y de su matrimonio!

«mm/dd/yy» también se llevó el primer puesto en el Tigerfest de la SHS en mayo y fue la película que Jesse presentó como parte de su solicitud de admisión a la escuela de cine de la Universidad Chapman. ¡Menuda racha de éxitos para esta película!

¡Enhorabuena, Jesse! La comunidad del Distrito Escolar de Summit está deseando ver adónde te llevan tu creatividad y tu talento cinematográfico. 🎥🐯

🏆 Summit High School has been selected by the Aspen Institute for the inaugural class of its Captains/Leadership Academy!

This new program will give SHS student-athletes an opportunity to deepen their understanding and application of leadership skills and bring those skills back to their school community.

Through the Aspen Institute’s Project Play programming, students will participate in seven seminar-style leadership sessions designed to develop strong, thoughtful leaders both on and off the field. The program will be led by SHS staff with support and guidance from the Aspen Institute.

The program is open to 10th–12th grade student-athletes who are current team captains or have demonstrated a desire to lead. Students are nominated by their coaches and must commit to attending all sessions.

The academy kicks off September 28 and continues through December, giving students the opportunity to learn, reflect, and put leadership into practice throughout the school year.

SHS is proud to be part of this inaugural group and excited to invest in the next generation of student leaders! 💙

🏆 ¡El Instituto Aspen ha seleccionado al Instituto Summit High School para formar parte de la primera promoción de su Academia de Capitanes y Liderazgo!

Este nuevo programa ofrecerá a los alumnos-deportistas del SHS la oportunidad de profundizar en su comprensión y aplicación de las habilidades de liderazgo, y de trasladar esas habilidades a su comunidad escolar.

A través de la iniciativa «Project Play» del Instituto Aspen, los alumnos participarán en siete sesiones de liderazgo en formato de seminario, diseñadas para formar líderes sólidos y reflexivos tanto dentro como fuera del campo. El programa estará dirigido por el personal de la SHS con el apoyo y la orientación del Instituto Aspen.

El programa está abierto a alumnos-deportistas de los cursos 10.º a 12.º que sean actualmente capitanes de equipo o que hayan demostrado su deseo de liderar. Los alumnos son propuestos por sus entrenadores y deben comprometerse a asistir a todas las sesiones.

La academia comienza el 28 de septiembre y se prolongará hasta diciembre, lo que brinda a los alumnos la oportunidad de aprender, reflexionar y poner en práctica el liderazgo a lo largo del curso escolar.

¡La SHS se enorgullece de formar parte de este grupo inaugural y está encantada de invertir en la próxima generación de líderes estudiantiles!

Applications are now open for Leadership Summit Academy, an opportunity for families and community members to deepen their understanding of Summit School District, connect with district leaders, and learn more about the work shaping the future of education in our community.

Throughout the 2026–27 school year, participants will get an inside look at our district, including updates on our transformation work and opportunities to engage with the people helping guide Summit School District forward.
