🍷 A Beautiful Surprise from Bierzo! 🇪🇸

Had the opportunity to taste the Emilio Moro Polvorete Bierzo Godello 2024, Bodegas Emilio Moro and this one was a fantastic surprise.

I didn’t know what to expect going in—kind of like being a dad experiencing an SEC school Sorority Bid Day for his oldest daughter! 😂 But just like Bid Day, the experience turned out to be amazing.

Made from Godello, one of Spain’s most exciting white grapes, Polvorete delivers bright citrus, green apple, white flowers, subtle minerality, and a beautifully clean finish. 🍋🍏🌸

What really stood out was the balance between freshness and texture. Crisp and lively, but with enough weight and complexity to keep things interesting.

Bierzo continues to prove that it deserves a spot on the radar, and Polvorete is a great introduction to both the region and Godello.

Fresh. Mineral. Elegant. Delicious. And definitely not what I expected—in the best possible way. 🇪🇸🥂

🍷 A GREAT NIGHT IN BURGUNDY & BORDEAUX 🇫🇷

This weekend’s tasting was a reminder of why French wine is so endlessly fascinating — different regions, different grapes, different expressions, but one common thread: balance, place & character.

🥂 Louis Bouillot Perle de Vigne Crémant de Bourgogne Brut — Crisp, lively & elegant with beautiful bubbles. A fantastic way to start the evening.

🍋 Domaine Chatelain Petit Chablis 2024 — Classic Chablis freshness: bright citrus, minerality & that unmistakable flinty character.

🍷 Château Haut Cadet St-Émilion Grand Cru 2020 — Rich, polished & approachable, with ripe fruit, subtle oak & the structure you expect from Bordeaux.

🍷 Château Garraud Lalande-de-Pomerol 2018 — Plush, earthy & beautifully mature. Dark fruit, spice & a silky texture made this one a standout.

🍒 Domaine des Riottes Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru 2020 — Elegant Burgundy at its best: red fruit, earth, spice & silky tannins with plenty of finesse.

Five wines. Two legendary regions. One Family gathering. One fantastic evening. 🇫🇷🍷

2024 Domaine Pascal Bouchard Petit Chablis

There’s a common misconception that great wine has to be complicated.

I’ve found the opposite is often true.

The bottles that stay with me are the ones that express their origins with honesty and restraint, allowing the vineyard—not the winemaker—to be the loudest voice in the glass.

This Petit Chablis is a reminder that the finest white wines are often defined not by richness, but by clarity—bright citrus, crisp green apple, delicate floral notes, and the mineral precision that makes Chablis unmistakable.

If your Chardonnay needs butter and oak to be interesting, you’re tasting the winemaking—not the wine.

🍋 2023 Domaine Chatelain Chablis Premier Cru

One of the philosophies I come back to over and over is this:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

That’s exactly what this Chablis delivers.

🎉🍷 Happy Birthday, Julia! What. A. Night. 🍷🎉

Sixteen amazing friends and family. Seven incredible wines. Two legendary wine countries. And one very competitive game of Guess That Bottle! 🍾🕵️‍♂️

We traveled from the bubbles of Burgundy to Napa Valley, explored the crisp elegance of Sancerre, the rustic charm of the Rhône, the richness of Paso Robles, and finished with the timeless beauty of Oregon Pinot Noir.

🍷 A Taste of Bordeaux History 🍷

Some bottles are more than wine—they’re time capsules.

The pour: 1982 Château Bellevue Saint-Georges – Saint-Émilion Grand Vin de Bordeaux.

Here’s the funny part…I didn’t drink this bottle tonight. I bought it and enjoyed it years ago—back before France converted to the Euro. I wasn’t a sommelier. I wasn’t studying wine. I had 20 francs to burn on my way out of Paris.

What I didn’t realize was that I had stumbled upon one of the most celebrated Bordeaux vintages in modern history. The 1982 vintage changed the world of fine wine, producing bottles renowned for their exceptional ripeness, balance, and longevity.

More than four decades later, collectors are still chasing great ’82 Bordeaux.

At the time, it was simply “a nice bottle of French wine.” Looking back now, I laugh a little—and cringe a little more. If I had known then what I know now, I would have slowed down, paid closer attention, and appreciated just how special that bottle really was.

That’s one of the beautiful things about a wine journey. Sometimes you don’t realize you’ve experienced history until years later.

Fortunately, every bottle—whether it’s a Tuesday night Cabernet or a legendary Bordeaux—teaches you something.

Chablis just hits different.

Had the Domaine Chenevières Chablis Premier Cru Fourchaume 2022 last night, and it was exactly what I want from a great white wine—fresh, clean, and incredibly easy to keep going back to.

Bright citrus, green apple, and a little bit of peach, with that crisp, mineral-driven character that makes Chablis so refreshing. No heavy oak, no over-the-top fruit, just balance and purity from start to finish.

What stood out most was how versatile it felt. Sophisticated enough to appreciate on its own, but approachable enough that you don’t have to overthink it.

The kind of wine that would be just as comfortable at a nice dinner in Paris as it would be on a patio with good friends and a plate of fresh seafood.

A fantastic reminder that sometimes the best wines aren’t the loudest—they’re the ones that make you pour another glass.

🍷 Wine of the Night: Bolla Valpolicella Classico 🍷

Sometimes the most enjoyable wines are the ones that don’t try too hard—and that’s exactly what makes Bolla Valpolicella Classico so appealing. Bright, smooth, and incredibly food-friendly, this Italian classic delivers fresh red fruit flavors with just the right touch of spice and elegance.

What stood out most was its versatility.

Whether paired with pasta, pizza, grilled meats, or enjoyed on its own, it brought a sense of balance and effortless charm to every sip.

This is the kind of wine that reminds us why Italy remains one of the world’s great wine destinations: authentic, approachable, and meant to be shared around a table with family and friends.

A wonderful reminder that great wine doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to be enjoyed.

🍷 Last night’s surprise: 2022 Banshee Pinot Noir 🍷

I did it. I’m outing myself. I picked this bottle because I recently finished watching Banshee on HBO Max. The name caught my attention, and I figured it was worth giving a try. I picked it totally by the name and label. Couldn’t pass it up.

Turns out, I’m glad I did.

The 2022 Banshee Pinot Noir was an exceptional surprise, offering bright cherry and raspberry flavors, a touch of spice, and a smooth finish. It’s balanced, approachable, and the kind of wine that doesn’t try too hard—it 100% delivered a solid experience.

The Pinot Noir killed it and more than held up its end of the bargain.

Cheers to unexpected discoveries and finding a bottle that kicked tail…like Sheriff Hood 🍇🍷
