What if the adversity that seems so big and heavy for your athlete right now is actually the life lesson that’s preparing them for what’s to come?

What if that starting lineup they can’t seem to get their name on is how they learn that they have to work harder to earn their way to the top?

What if that huge loss becomes the foundation on which they build to earn that bigger win down the line?

What if that play they blew in the big moment of the game is the thing that gives them the empathy to support a teammate when they find themselves in the same spot one day?

What if that coach with whom they don’t connect is the experience they need to prepare them for that working relationship with a future boss that might be tough to navigate?

What if that time off from an injury is what they needed to learn to better appreciate the moments when they’re out there doing what they love?

What if…

… this is the whole point of youth sports?

For our kids learn how to win in sports and in life by learning from the losses.

It doesn’t mean it makes it any easier to navigate, but when we can see the big picture, it can give us the perspective we need to go through it with more hope for what’s to come.

So if your athlete is facing adversity right now — and it feels heavy for all of you — remind yourselves that it may just be setting them up for a bigger win down the line.
