This process not only ends with the creation of a robot, but also succeeds in increasing self-confidence, improving communication skills, improving leadership skills, as well as developing character. Working with their peers and mentors, students gain experience in valuable social and technical skills. Professionalism and teamwork are lessons that are taught through experience. It’s not just about building a robot, but making new friends and contacts and being allowed to try out new ideas and new solutions to problems through hands-on trial and error. On top of the practical experience our members gain the ability to apply for FIRST grants and college scholarships which are valued at over $14 million in 2011. The efforts put in by our team members teach that hard work and determination have their rewards.
