Gurleen Kaur is an international student, from Haryana, India. She is the first in her family to go to college and is studying to become a nurse. Gurleen also serves as a SI leader and mentor, where she helps other students be successful in their classes.
Gurleen said, "After graduating, I will work here for about a year on optional-practical training, to get some experience as a nurse. [Then], I will move back to Haryana, where we did not have enough healthcare services. I want to serve my community there."

Noel Aguilar-Zazueta is in her final semester of her Bachelors program, majoring in sociology and American Indian studies.
"I was raised mainly in southeast Fresno but moved around a lot due to instability," Noel said. "My pathway to Fresno State was completely supported through the Resources for American Indian Needs at Fresno City College and the Native American Initiative at Fresno State.
Noel is now an active member of the NEUM Native American Student Association and plans to become a licensed clinical social worker after earning her Masters, in order to assist local Native communities.
Noel said, "I think it is important to note that I myself am Native American. My tribes are Gabrielino Tongva and Mescalero Apache. Native American students make up less than 1% of the Fresno State population. I am honored to be here in the name of my people and my ancestors, because places like these institutions were not built for our success."

"My mother was diagnosed with cancer and quickly declined...With a full course load and financial struggles, I was trying to find a way to see her before she died. With the Good Samaritan Grant, I was able to visit my mother and keep my focus on school. My mother died last month on the 18th. Itβs been a difficult time, but I wanted to be sure to say, thank you for your help. I will forever be grateful." β Good Samaritan Grant recipient
