This week’s theme: learning when to stand up for yourself and not lose your temper
Book:
“Hotel Bruce” by Ryan Higgins
Steps to delivering an impactful Reading Circle:
1- Opening Activity (follow the instructions in the PDF)
2-Sight Words - When Bruce gets home from a southern migration trip with his goslings, he is tired. He is grumpy. And he is definitely not in the mood to share his home with the trio of mice who have turned his den into a hotel.
There's a possum pillow fight wreaking havoc in one room, a fox luring guests into a stew in the kitchen, and a snuggly crew of critters hogging the bed. Bruce growls and grumbles and tries to throw them all out, but the entrepreneurial mice just can't take a hint. Bruce is in a little over his head, especially once the goslings join the staff. Will this grumpy bear ever get his quiet, peaceful den back to himself?
3- Watch the video of the reading
4- Discuss transition/focus questions
5- Read the activity sheet and gather supplies.
6- Activity:
When you’re stressed or frustrated it is important to take a deep breath. Sometimes we get so frustrated that we feel like we need to take that out on something. Rather than potentially causing damage to a physical object, we’re going to use watercolor paint and straws to take our frustrations out!

Have fun!

We would love to see photos of you and your loved ones conducting your own Reading Circle at home!

This week’s theme: Importance of returning generosity
Book:The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Summary Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk ... and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave.

Steps to delivering an impactful Reading Circle:
1- Opening Activity (follow the instructions in the PDF)
2-Sight Words - While you are reading, stop and identify any words your children may not know, along with those provided to you within the PDF file. If you don’t know the meaning of the word, look it up together!
3- Watch the video of the reading
4- Discuss transition/focus questions
5- Read the activity sheet and gather supplies.
6- Activity:
Using art supplies you either have around the house, or after a quick trip to the store, we are going to create thank you cards for someone who has helped us in the past. Someone who did something nice for you, or went above and beyond in helping you during a difficult time.

Have fun!
