Did you know your ability to participate in city council meetings is at risk?
Tomorrow, the Fresno City Council will vote on Resolution 2-W, which aims to amend the City Council Public Accessibility Act. This impacts your ability to participate in council meetings remotely, an important option for many in our community.
Resolution 2-W proposes changes to the current City Council Public Accessibility Act, which was implemented during the pandemic. This act has allowed access to council meetings through Zoom, enabling parents, students, working individuals, and those with disabilities to participate without the need to be physically present at City Hall.
For many, the ability to join via Zoom means the difference between being heard and being silenced. This resolution will:
Limit accessibility for those with physical disabilities, lack of reliable transportation, or financial difficulties.
Exclude working parents, students, and elderly citizens for whom making the trip down to City Hall is extremely difficult.
Reduce participation from community members who have never before had the chance to engage.
