Innovating on AI literacy in K-12 πŸ€– πŸ“š 🍎

Fresno State, Fresno Unified School District, Patterson Joint Unified School District and the community will work to develop a new model for AI literacy education, which could one day be the model adopted nationwide!

The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded Fresno State the FINDERS FOUNDRY $50,000 federal grant, expanding on the university's research and advancements in the fields of AI and education.

"How do you change a school’s culture?" πŸ’­

Dr. David Low, professor in the Department of Teacher Preparation, explores racist, sexist, and anti-LGBTQ ridicule in schools in his recent commentary in the Fresno Bee.

The subject is at the core of Dr. Low's 2024 book, "Transgressive Humor in Classrooms", which earned the Luis C. Moll Book Award, and is part of Fresno State’s Public Voices Project, which helps faculty members share their research and expertise with broader public audiences through opinion writing.

"Removing bad apples won’t save the bunch. For that, we must recognize what causes the rot, and apply effective, preventive remedies."

NOW HIRING: Education Assessment and Accreditation Analyst πŸ’Ό

Under the administrative direction of the Dean of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, this role performs crucial assessment and accreditation reporting and activities for our Educator Preparation Programs and the Kremen School.

The Analyst works collaboratively with our Associate Dean in areas of program planning and development, school-wide assessment, continuous data-driven improvement and accreditation oversight. In additional, this role works with faculty, department chairs, program coordinators, county and school district personnel, accreditation agencies and stakeholders to achieve and maintain common goals related to assessment, continuous improvement and accreditation tasks and activities.

Celebrating alumna Chrizia Dela Rosa for being named one of five 2026 California Teachers of the Year! ⭐

Originally from the Philippines, Chrizia struggled with English and dreaded school until one teacher, Miss Tran, connected with her and created a welcoming classroom environment.

Recognized for her data-driven, personal approach to engaging with her students, Dela Rosa blends empathy with the math instruction in her classroom. For this honor, the Kremen School will gift a brick on the Teachers and Friends of Education Honor Wall at the main entrance of Fresno State on Shaw and Maple.

Over two dozen educators from across the region were recognized during the KSEE24 Educator of the Week Award Reception held in front of the Teachers and Friends of Education Honor Wall last week!

Awardees were celebrated in front of family, friends and colleagues for their creativity and dedication in the classroom, and will soon have their own engraved brick on the Teacher Honor Wall as an everlasting celebration of their legacy. Dr. S. Marshall Perry, an educational leadership scholar with a background in promoting student success, will serve as the new dean of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development at Fresno State beginning on July 20.

β€œI’m incredibly excited to join Fresno State as the next dean of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development,” Perry said. β€œFresno State is known as a high-quality university of economic mobility and the Kremen School in particular is a place of enormous accomplishment and great potential."
