present
“The Making of The Flight of the Gossamer Condor ”
The Friends of the Madden Library invite everyone to a program on Friday, November 22, at 6:00 p.m. The speakers will be Ben Shedd, director of the 1978 Academy Award winning documentary, The Flight of the Gossamer Condor , and Bryan Allen, who piloted the first human-powered aircraft. The Gossamer Condor is featured in the Library’s ValleyFirsts! Exhibition.
Ben Shedd, a USC graduate, is the fifth generation of his family from Stockton. Shedd shares a Peabody Award for the second season of the PBS science series Nova.
Bryan Allen, who comes from Tulare, was the cyclist and hang glider enthusiast who pedaled the Gossamer Condor to success on its 223rd flight, which lasted seven minutes and twenty-seven seconds. Later Allen piloted a second award-winning flight, powering the Gossamer Albatross across the English Channel in two hours and forty-nine minutes.
