As an expert in the field of driver training, I'm extremely disappointed with the attempts to curb teenage driving accidents by tugging on heartstrings via tragic videos. Since the 1940’s, the attempt to reduce traffic accidents by only addressing the behavioral attitudes toward driving has failed. Tragic videos without increasing driving skills tends to breed fear and fear can destroy confidence. What’s missing is the skill of driving. The driver education industry in the U.S is severely lacking in skills training which is why we have twice as many accidents per capita as Germany. Germany requires a minimum of 20 hours of skills training and an approval by the instructor before the 80 minute driving exam is taken. Is believing you're a Safe Driver, a hoax? Ask 1000 drivers if they're a safe driver, over 990 would say yes. The same 990 would say other 999 drivers are the problem. Licensing qualifications are being confused with safe driver qualifications, the two aren't interchangeable. Drivers don't know what they don't know, that's why there are over 6 million traffic accidents each year in the US, 9800 injuries and 120 deaths on a daily basis.
