The Farm 2 Summer Celebration begins next week. We will be celebrating our school lunch and the local foods we serve on our menu. This week, we partnered with CalFresh Healthy Living, UCCE Fresno-Madera County to provide nutrition education at various school sites. We encourage students to eat school lunches every day this week to participate in this week-long event. School lunches help provide students with the fuel they need to stay full and be able to concentrate more in the classroom.

We celebrated Earth Day with an assembly at Sunset Elementary. This assembly was in partnership with our vendor Gold Star Foods Inc. and The Ugly Company. Farmer Ben, founder of The Ugly Company, came to teach students at Sunset about ways we can help the Earth stay healthy. Students learned about what Farmer Ben and his team do every day to help the earth. They also tried a parfait with dried peaches and nut-free granolas. The Ugly Company has helped save a million pounds of fresh produce due to minor cosmetic imperfections or market conditions each year. These fruits are then upcycled into dried fruits to be sold to stores and schools. Our Nutrition Services Team continues to help the environment by using environmentally friendly trays, reducing carbon footprint by buying local, and stopping waste by donating to local agencies. Let's all do our part in making the Earth a better place to live on. Fresno Unified School District

The Quest for School Breakfast starts this week. So start your day with a nutritious breakfast before heading off to class. This week, we will also be serving breakfast for lunch on March 4th and March 6th. Students will have the opportunity to try some of our most popular breakfast items during that time.
Did you know that we serve over 3 million breakfast meals a school year? That's a lot of breakfast.
Breakfast is free for all Fresno Unified School District students. Remember to come and eat your breakfast in the cafeteria before school starts to help celebrate National School Breakfast Week!

Fresno Unified Nutrition Services Team has been recognized by the Center for Good Food Purchasing for achieving the silver tier designation. Fresno Unified School District have invested $3.9 million in food sources within 50 miles of Fresno in support of our local vendors and farmers in providing high quality and nutritious food for our students. The Nutrition Services Team invited local partners and Center for Good Food Purchasing to celebrate this achievement. During this event, our partners were able to tour our nutrition center facility and try some of our new school menu items that we serve our students. We couldn't have done this without all of our staff from Nutrition Services. Let's continue serving nutritious meals and serving success to all of our students.
