Help us give a hearty send off to one of our instructors, Jason Tang, as he heads up north next semester as a new, full-time, tenure-track Comm Studies instructor at College of Marin. Jason has been a valuable part of our program since the pre-pandemic days, and we will miss him terribly. The program presented him with a couple of Clovis Crush merch items so he doesn't forget us and a gift certificate to a restaurant in the bay area to help him get established once he moves.
Jason, thank you for the Negotiation Tournaments, the Speech Nights, the Crush Got Talent shows, the Comm Lab, the holiday parties at Martinez Grand Central, the conversations, and most importantly, ALL you've done for our students over the years (especially in teaching Anna's youngest child).
We wish you the best!

Congratulations to our Comm grad Dean's medalist for Humanities & Athletics, Devin Redding!
Devin is a first-generation transgender student graduating with two degrees in English and Communications from Clovis Community College, where he has maintained a 4.0 GPA for the past five semesters.
Devin’s academic journey was not an easy one; as a low-income student and recovering addict with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the road to success was often marked with difficulty. Devin was abandoned by his parents at a young age, resulting in him living with his grandparents, who often experienced financial and health difficulties. He dropped out of high school and received his G.E.D. after experiencing severe transphobia and numerous physical assaults. After the loss of his beloved grandmother, Devin enrolled in Clovis Community College to pay reverence to the intelligent, kindhearted nurse and elementary educator she was and continue her legacy. Now, Devin takes the memory of his grandparents with him in all endeavors by making effective change on campus and ensuring his peers are supported academically and emotionally.
Devin has made his commitments to students and their voices known through his advocacy with the non-profit Imperial Dove Court, his work as a tutor in the Tutorial Center, and his time as a founder, captain, and president of the Clovis Community College Speech and Debate Team. Throughout his time at Clovis Community College, Devin has earned numerous medals through Speech and Debate, experiencing success at the national and international level through his achievements at the International Forensics Association Tournament, and the Phi Rho Pi National tournament, where he was named third Parliamentary debate speaker in the nation.

And finally, introducing Speech Night presenter, Ashton Nall!
Ashton will deliver a persuasive speech entitled, Bigger Vehicles, Bigger Problems: The Rise of Light Trucks in America. 🛻 🛻
Some interesting facts about him: He likes learning random skills for fun - he can juggle in different ways, walk on his hands, shuffle cards really well, and do swordfighting choreography he picked up last fall as a scare actor at Hobbs Grove.

Speech Night is THIS FRIDAY, May 1 in AC1-150 at 6:00pm.

Next up is Speech Night presenter, Cosmo Velez!
Cosmo's "speech" will be much different from the others you'll see that evening. His is an oral interpretation performance where students take various works of literature and perform them with characterization (body language, different voices) to present a message to the audience. The result is an intriguing alignment of English literature, public speaking, and theatre/drama skills. Cosmo's program is entitled, "Distinguishable from Magic." 🪄🖥
Oh, and his favorite flavor is salt.
