🎓Please join us in celebrating Kimberly Smith, a graduating senior and valedictorian from Sunnyside High School whose strength and determination have inspired everyone around her.
After the heartbreaking loss of her mother in April following a year-long illness, Kimberly chose to honor her mother's dream by staying committed to her education and future. Through grief and adversity, she continued to excel academically, lead her peers and serve her community with grace and perseverance. She will attend Benedict College on a full-ride scholarship and aspires to be an athletic trainer.
Kimberly’s impressive accomplishments include:
⭐ Black Student Union secretary
⭐ HBCU Step Up Program
⭐ Volleyball team captain
⭐ Boys volleyball team manager
⭐ Unified Sports, partnering with students with disabilities
⭐ SUFE Club and 2.0 Club
⭐ Tutor in English, art and history
Kimberly’s journey is a powerful reminder that even in life’s most difficult moments, perseverance and dedication can light the way forward. We know her mother would be incredibly proud of all she has achieved and the bright future ahead.
Congratulations, Kimberly! Fresno Unified is cheering you on every step of the way. 💙🎉

🎓️ Nalaya Whitty, a graduation senior at Roosevelt High school will attend Fresno State in the fall 🐾 as a President’s Honors Scholar, a prestigious full-ride award from the Smittcamp Family Honors College. Nalaya is a bright, personable, energetic and mature student who wants to change lives – as her own has been changed – by becoming a teacher. ⭐️
She has shown perseverance and dedication through her four years of high school to achieving her goals, including taking AP classes and serving as president of the Black Student Union. She has also served her community through her work in T1 Sports Academy programs, Summer Bridge, Peer-to-Peer Mentoring and Beautify Fresno.
Sophia Norman, Roosevelt English teacher: “This young woman of character should be highlighted for her exemplary qualities and ability to inspire underserved students in the future. She is one of a kind; someone who can transform the narrative that has historically incapacitated our BIPOC [black, indigenous and people of color] demographic.”
Congratulations, Nalaya!
