From the Director: "I think we offer a lot of special classes in our OLLI program, but I want to share a moment from this week. In Lanny Larson's Current Events class, before he launched into the usual discussion of news topics, he gave members space to share their memories of what they were doing 25 years ago when the 9/11 terror attacks took place, and what lessons we have learned or not learned in the quarter-century since. I appreciated hearing people's memories of that day. It was emotional, even after all of this time, but it was also cathartic." ~ Lisa Bell

What were you doing the day we came under attack? And what lessons would you say that experience taught our country?

Fresno State Anthropology professor Dr. Chelsey Juarez kicked off our keynote series on Sept. 10 with a fascinating presentation about the Central California Forensic Fire Death Investigation Academy. Juarez talked about how her experiences with the Creek, Paradise, Palisades and Altadena fires has informed how first responders are trained. The academy also offers research opportunities for scientists studying wildfire. Several Fresno State anthropology and construction management faculty are conducting related research.

Don't miss the next keynote on Sept. 24! Former TV sports director Dan Taylor will discuss "Breaking Golf's Color Barrier." Become a member today, and you and a guest can attend all keynote presentations. (Registration link in the comments.)
