Eagle Eye News - Spotting AU Stories Worth Sharing!

In this report, we highlight the Positivity Project.

A little positivity goes a long way! Becoming a successful student and a well-rounded person means developing a number of positive qualities. Many important life skills, such as considering others, gratitude, and perseverance, are weekly themes throughout the year.
American Union participates in The Positivity Project along with schools across the country and around the world. Teachers are provided with ready-made lesson materials to review 24 positive character strengths over the course of the school year. These lessons give students an opportunity to think about the qualities that help them become their best selves and contribute to a positive school community.

Curiosity

This week, students learned about the value of curiosity. Teachers led discussions to help students see the benefits of approaching the world around them with a curious mindset. Students learned that asking questions can help us deepen our understanding and make learning more interesting.
Many students wrote their reflections about the topic in their journals. Asking questions is an important part of being a great learner, and our students are well on their way to developing this important skill.

Teamwork

Next week, our theme will be teamwork. As students consider the value of working together and valuing everyone's contribution, they will have opportunities to see how we can accomplish more when we work as a team.
Teamwork happens all around our school. Whether working together to get a ball down from a tree or collaborating with partners to solve a math problem, students have many chances to practice listening, sharing ideas, helping others, and working toward a common goal. Sometimes teamwork means taking the lead, and other times it means listening carefully and supporting someone else's idea.
The Positivity Project is helping staff and students create a positive campus culture while building personal character development. From positive Post-it notes on doors to meaningful classroom conversations, teachers are guiding our Eagles to be their best selves. Each week's theme gives us another opportunity to pause, reflect, and think about the kind of people and community we want to be.

We’re staying busy, even during the summer. Our maintenance and technology teams are hard at work with campus improvements. Summer school teachers are providing engaging lessons. Our students even pitched in to install the new AU sign on our front fence to help campus look good for the new year.
