Here's How We Homeschool

Hi, I'm Andrea. My kids are ages 8, 7, 3 and 7 months. Our homeschooling style is eclectic. I hope our homescholing journey will be encouraging to you!

I use curriculum for math, writing and grammar, and use a unit study style for other subjects.

The big kids are practicing their Spanish colors and numbers, and my preschooler is practicing number and letter recognition. 😊

After tornadoes, we studied earthquakes, then went quickly through Stage Fright on a Summer Night and learned some drama terms. Then we also quickly read Thanksgiving on Thursday because we studied that previously. Now we are studying Africa with Good Morning, Gorillas!

We started learning about weather a few weeks ago. I used parts of these books, plus a couple from the Read and Find Out series from our library. Next post will show what I'm using for tornadoes. What have we been up to? We just finished our quick study of the Revolutionary War and George Washington. My kids also found some things to create and sell a couple weekends ago, so we were busy with that. And this weekend we were busy with a game of Monopoly!

We started Civil War on Sunday. We will be learning about Clara Barton, a little about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln, and we're starting US geography.

Happy new year! Who's working on some planning for the rest of the school year? 🙋‍♀️ Next week we will be starting the MTH Dingos at Dinnertime, and learning about Australia. I found a coloring page on education.com, and we'll be learning a little about the animals, geography, flag, money, history and culture of Australia. I'll pick a craft too, and maybe a recipe. We'll try to finish this study in a week!
(I am trying to push through these studies based on the Magic Tree House books quickly because I want to try to get through the whole series before next school year starts. But, we often take longer on each study than I have planned.)

This week we have been studying indigenous people. We read about some of the large tribes in America, especially in the Plains. Next week we are going to study the tribes in our area. I got these books from our library except for two I had, and the worksheets from education.com.
