New England Asters are a hearty perennial that add a beautiful pop of color to the fall foliage💜

They are also edible and help support respiratory health and the nervous system in a nice cup of tea🫖

And provide a crucial late-season snack of nectar and pollen for pollinators who love them as much as we do🐝

The salmon are running here at the farm!

Fish tea or the leftover fish carcass is wonderful for your garden. It provides a slow release fertilizer full of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other minerals that your tomatoes and other heavy nitrogen feeders will love!

Simply bury the fish 12-18in deep, brew a fermented fish tea or hot compost any discard so none of the fish goes to waste.

🍄 Little signs of the season are popping up around the farm.

The days are getting shorter, the evenings a little cooler, and even a few mushroom friends have started making themselves at home beneath the trees. 🌲🍂

We’re settling into another week at Healthy Plant, watching the farm shift right along with the season. 🌱

We hope your week is off to a good start!

The days are getting shorter, but farm life keeps moving. 🌕

October brings darker mornings and earlier sunsets as the shift in the rhythm around the farm changes.

It is special seeing the greenhouse glowing after dark while the rest of the farm settles in for the night. ✨

As we welcome a new season, we’re looking forward to getting out into the community, too!

Healthy Plant will be at the Kropscott Fall Festival as a vendor on October 11th 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Kropscott Farm. Come out for an afternoon filled with fall fun for the whole family! 🎃

200 gallons of compost tea ought to do the trick! Inoculating our compost piles while they are curing adds more beneficial bacteria so you take home a higher quality product full of all the goodness💚

Slow down… worms at work! 🪱

They may be small, but worms are doing some seriously important work beneath our feet.

Earthworms help aerate the soil as they move, creating pathways that allow water and air to reach plant roots and help break down organic matter so nutrients can make their way back into the soil. 🌱

Here at Healthy Plant, we’re especially fond of what worms can create, supporting healthy soil and happy plants. 😉

Sometimes the hardest workers on the farm are the smallest ones. 💚
