I love this picture. I see conflict resolution and growing executive function skills.
These are the skills children need to have to be successful in school.
At Pearl, we don’t say things like “use your words”.
I assume if a child is screaming or hitting it’s because they don’t have the words. They need us to provide them.
This morning a squabble began. Reese scream cried in frustration. I said “Reese, say to him ‘I don’t like that”.
He thought about it, but before he could answer, his little buddy Sunny went over to the friend and yelled, “REESIE DON’T LIKE THAT”.
And for those who know Sunny, you’ll know that was the end of that!
ECE peeps, let’s quit telling children to use their words and help them instead find and learn the words.
In the next episode of Miss Myra’s pet peeves we will address saying “you’re ok” to a child who is clearly not ok.
