Proud of what our Ag program has done and where our Ag program is going!!

Last night our Agriscience Program was recognized for receiving the 2026 MAAE Outstanding Middle/Secondary Program Award. At the time of application, the program was led by Renee Schweitzer and Chase Bos and is now under the direction of Elizabeth Kurtz. The Newaygo County Career-Tech Center demonstrates excellence in classroom instruction, experiential learning, leadership development, community partnerships, and student success.

Our program serves students from seven school districts and was re-chartered in 2012. What began with just 27 students has grown into a thriving program featuring animal science, plant science, food science, agriscience research, and project-based learning opportunities supported by a greenhouse, hoop house, barn, food science lab, and two classrooms.

At the heart of our program is a commitment to AFNR education for all. Every student participates in meaningful leadership and experiential learning opportunities. Over the last five years, virtually every student has competed in a state-level FFA event, while 100 percent of students have maintained multiple Supervised Agricultural Experiences through the program's commitment to the SAE for All model. Students gain hands-on experience caring for livestock, managing greenhouse crops, conducting research projects, and exploring career pathways that prepare them for future success.

In the past five years program members have earned multiple American and State FFA Degrees, state championships in Career and Leadership Development Events, national recognition in proficiency awards and agriscience research, and two three-star National Chapter Awards. Our students consistently demonstrate excellence in both technical and leadership skills.

We have another staff member to introduce and welcome to our Newaygo County CTC staff; Amber Mosher, our new Agriscience Paraprofessional!

Amber has always worked with both kids and around animals. She started babysitting as a kid and eventually became a full-time Nanny after graduating high school. She grew up raising and showing livestock, focusing on cattle and sheep but also showing swine, rabbits and alpacas. She is very excited to see the kids learn in the barn here at NC CTC. She also looks forward to helping them get to the fair this summer!

Amber is Married to Kyle Mosher, and they have a beautiful 1 year old daughter, Sawyer. She can't wait to introduce Sawyer to all of the animals in the barn!

Our next staff introduction is our new Cosmetology Instructor, Angela Delo!

Angela joins us with an extensive background in the Cosmetology and the educational field. She has been a Cosmetologist for 32 years and an instructor/ educator for 17. She comes to us from Fremont High School where she was an academic interventionist and from French Academy of Cosmetology where she has taught for many years. Angela was a graduate of our cosmetology program in 1995 and is dedicated to developing and making the Cosmetology program one of the best around.

"As cosmetologists we are lucky to have a job that we get to go to everyday that is fun and enjoyable. I get to share that opportunity with the students in our program. Having the honor of teaching the next generation of cosmetologists combines both my love of teaching with my love of the beauty industry!"

When she is not teaching, Angela is spending time with her 3 children and her pups. In her free time, she enjoys gardening!

Another new staff member to NC CTC; our Business Applied Technology Paraprofessional, Rachel Domine!

Rachel is excited to start her new employment journey as the Business Applied Technology Parapro at the Newaygo County Career Tech Center. She has worked as an administrative assistant in various office settings over her professional career. She loves the Fremont community! She grew up here and feels honored that she can be a part of the NCRESA team.

Rachel and her husband live in Fremont, and their son is a Freshman at Davenport University this fall. Go Panthers!

This school year has started out AMAZING for Rachel, and she can't wait to see what is yet to come!

As we settle into the year, it's time to introduce our new Career-Tech Center staff. First introduction is our new Automotive Tech Instructor; Josh Denhof!

Josh launched his automotive career during high school at a local tech center in Grand Rapids, where he served as a program ambassador and discovered an early passion for teaching. He earned his Master Technician certification right out of high school and spent 19 years with a GM dealership in Grand Rapids before transitioning into education.

Over five years ago, he brought his industry expertise back into the classroom with the Kent Intermediate School District. Now, Josh is excited to join the Newaygo team as our new Automotive Instructor. At home, Josh and his wife, Rachel, have been married for 13 years and are the proud parents of three active boys—Emmett, Nolan, and Liam.

Yesterday, our Career-Tech students gathered at the Dogwood Center for orientation as we kicked off another exciting year of hands-on learning, new experiences, and opportunities to build skills for the future.
