Both can support your petition, but they bring different perspectives.
📝 A recommendation letter comes from someone who knows you or your work—often a supervisor, colleague, collaborator, or client who has worked with you. It describes your contributions and the impact they observed through specific examples.
🔍 An expert opinion letter provides an independent assessment by a qualified subject-matter expert who does not need to have worked with you personally. The expert reviews your supporting records, explains the significance of your work, and connects the analysis to the NIW framework.
For both, what matters is:
✅ Relevant expertise and a clear basis of knowledge
