More wonderful scholarship news in FUSD!

On May 15, 2026, the seven finalists for the Olive Hyde Art Guild Scholarships shared selections from their portfolios, giving attendees a chance to experience their work up close and connect with these emerging and talented young artists. This years winners are:

Artistic Merit ($250 art supplies gift certificate), High School: Catherine Chen from Mission San Jose High School. (Catherine will be a Visual Art Major at UC Irvine in Fall).

Artistic Excellence ($500 Scholarship funded by project Mini Art), High School: Emily Huang, Mission San Jose High School. (Emily will attend USC in the fall, majoring in Interactive Media/Game Design).

Outstanding Artistic Talent ($2000 Scholarship), High School: Hope Chon from Irvington High School. Hope also recently won the Fremont City Intergenerational Art Contest for her digital art. (She is going to pursue a degree in Design from Carnegie Mellon University). Hope wrote in her application about why art matters to her: “My art allows me to express emotions I can’t describe with words, translating into a visual language others can understand. Drawing turns my vulnerability and hurt into something beautiful others can relate to. Through these drawings I’ve learned so much about myself and sharing these conversations with others. I hope to continue creating works that will inspire others and make them
feel seen.”

Join us in congratulating these young artists!

Last week, our Transportation Department shared their progress in Phase 2 of the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) facility work and the installation of V2G chargers. This is a technology that enables our electric buses to push stored electricity from their batteries back to the power grid, transforming them from passive consumers into active energy storage devices. By using bidirectional charging, V2G helps stabilize the grid and creates funding opportunities for the District that goes toward lowering our energy costs. 🚌⚡

FUSD is a leader in sustainable transportation, and you can expect to see even more of these electric vehicles added to our fleet soon!

This week, Bringhurst Elementary collaborated with Kids Against Hunger to help feed the hungry.

The Blazers did an amazing job packing 30,888 meals in just three hours! The smiles never left the students' faces, and several of them were already asking when they could do it again.

What a wonderful act of compassion to bring the school year to a close. Join us in honoring the hard work of the Bringhurst students, staff and community!

This week we celebrated an incredible group of retiring educators whose dedication has shaped countless lives over the years. In addition to festivities at the district office, many school sites, such as Mission Valley Elementary (pictured), held celebrations for their retiring staff.

Thank you for the lessons taught, the encouragement given, and the difference you made every single day. Your impact will continue for generations through the students, families, and communities you inspired.

Wishing all of our retiring teachers endless joy, relaxation, adventure, and new memories in this next chapter. You’ve earned it!
