I am a Mechanical Engineer and doing software engineer jobs. Can USCIS allow such a transition and how do I get my H1 approved.

Answer: Both mechanical and software engineers work on technology and electronics but the acquired skill sets are completely different. But however, it it is still possible for a mechanical engineer to work in software.

In Simple words, mechanical engineers engage in the design, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical devices. They focus on the hardware of electronic devices. Meanwhile, software engineers are responsible for the design, creation, and testing of devices' operating systems.

Although the nature of work is different, it is more understandable that these days both hardware and software technologies comes together in a blended mode and the so called digital twin exist and growing at a rapid speed. Also, software in general is completely broad. For example, it can be just a coding or development of some applications based on the new languages or the business processes etc. Therefore, an experience you gained in bachelors degree and the underlying mathematics is important rather than a specific experience in software engineering. This makes not only the computer science engineers, but also the mechanical and electronics engineers to do the job role of software developer. This can be justified based on each individual background and certifications and that helps people at USCIS office to understand the nature of your application and job.
