What’s that smell? It’s the star flower plant in the greenhouse! Orbea variegata, known as star flower or carrion flower, is a species of succulent in the dogbane family that is native to the coastal belt of the Western Cape, South Africa. The blooms have a faint carrion smell to attract potential insect pollinators. The bloom formed over the course of a few weeks and finally opened today. A cool-looking flower for sure!

The HCC Earth Club and advisors went out and picked up litter on their stretch of highway US-20 this afternoon! Perhaps you saw them! We also saw some wildlife among the litter.

We thank them for their service but also hope that people can do better and not litter!
