This.
This is what makes me so happy. 😍

This week we are studying Ephesians 4 and talking about kindness. What it looks like to be patient with one another, to speak with love, and to build one another up.

This little guy is a first grader reading at a fourth-grade level. He is incredibly bright. But he is also funny, curious, energetic, loving, full of questions, and still very much a little boy and So loving.

And I never want the pursuit of academics to make us forget the child sitting in front of us.

Sometimes learning looks like a book and a pencil.

And sometimes it looks like this, sitting on the floor, eye to eye with a coach who is listening, encouraging, asking questions, and reminding a child that his voice matters and their actions create the life they want.

We want our children to question.
We want them to wonder.
We want them to move.
We want them to know that being smart isn’t only about getting the right answer.

Our job isn’t simply to fill children with information.

It’s to build them up.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another…”
Ephesians 4:32

This is the Schoolhouse.
And this is the part I love most. 🫶🏽

There’s something really beautiful about watching kids of different ages learn alongside each other.

The younger ones get to look up and see what’s possible.

The older ones get something just as important, the chance to help, explain, lead, slow down and realize, I know how to do this.

And then five minutes later, the roles can completely reverse.

One child knows the answer.
Another knows how to build it.
Another has done it before.
Another is brave enough to try first.

That’s real life.

We don’t live our lives separated by age or grade level. We learn from people older than us, younger than us and different from us all the time.

And we’ve found that when kids are given the opportunity to do the same, something really special starts to happen.

They stop seeing who’s ahead and who’s behind and start seeing what each person brings to the table.

Different ages.
Different strengths.
Same team. 🤎

And that might be one of our favorite things about our Schoolhouse.

What if school looked a little different?

What if children could learn surrounded by trees, trails, fresh air and room to explore? 🌲

What if nature wasn’t something we squeezed in after the learning but was part of the learning?

Strong academics matter.
So does movement.
Curiosity.
Using your hands.
Asking questions.
Feeling connected.
And having the space to still be a kid.

There is so much we can teach from a book and so much children can only learn by living it.

This is our Freeport Schoolhouse.
This is Nature School. 💚

Childhood and education were never meant to be separate.

Not much ranching happened today we were busy playing teacher.

Between some pretty wild Florida thunderstorms and finishing up our Schoolhouse assessments, the cows didn’t get quite as much of us today.

Instead, we spent part of the day doing math with our kids and helping make sure everyone is landing in the group that’s right for where they are not simply the grade they’re “supposed” to be in.

That’s one of my favorite things about what we’re building. Meet the child where they are, teach for mastery, and let them grow from there.

Tomorrow, back to the cows.
Well, maybe.

Ranch life + Schoolhouse life. Wouldn’t trade either one.

Freeport Schoolhouse 🐴

This is what learning can look like.

Horsemanship isn’t just about riding a horse. It’s learning confidence, responsibility, patience, communication, respect, and trust all while getting kids outside, moving, and learning with their hands.

Our Freeport kiddos kicked off Horsemanship this week, and from everything we heard, they LOVED it. 😊

So grateful for the people in our community who help us give these kids experiences that go far beyond a desk.

When your community loves on the people loving on your kids. ☕️

A huge thank you to Abide Coffee for hooking up our Freeport Schoolhouse coaches today!

Our coaches pour so much into these kids, and little acts of kindness like this mean more than you know. 🙏

We are so grateful for this community and the way local businesses continue to show up and love on our Schoolhouse family. 🫶🏽

And of course, Luke understood the assignment and made sure he got in the team photo. 😂🐾

What if some of the best classrooms were never meant to have four walls? 🌿

There is so much to learn when children are given the space to move, explore, get their hands dirty, ask questions and experience the world around them.

Nature has a way of slowing us down, waking up our curiosity and reminding us of the Creator behind it all.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
Psalm 19:1

This is what my soul craves for childhood. 🙏

This is Laurel Hill. ♥️
And just wait until you see Freeport.

The vision?
To bring kids here.
Kids who learn differently. Kids who need to move, build, touch, see, explore and actually do, to be surrounded by animals and nature.

To give them more time outside.
More hands-on learning.
More real-life experiences.
And a place where learning doesn’t have to look the same for every child.

School is back in session!

When we started, there were seven kids.
Then there were four.
And Bryan and I would say to each other, it was never about how many kids came.
We were simply trying to create something different for our own son.

We never set out to start a schoolhouse.
It started with Ranch Days. Kids coming out here to learn, work, move, get dirty, be around animals and experience life on a working ranch. Then families started asking us for more.
They wanted this kind of childhood for their children too.
So we took little steps.
And we just kept showing up.
Somewhere along the way, Ranch Days became the Schoolhouse.
A place where we can preserve a little more childhood while still giving kids a strong education.

Where mornings begin together with prayer, scripture and character. Where kids move their bodies before sitting down to learn. Where we have reading and ELA groups, math, project-based learning and plenty of time outside.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, there might be chores to do, animals to care for, a fence to check or some farm work that needs an extra set of hands.

There are dogs, bunnies and chickens nearby, and cows and horses just beyond the classroom. Because we believe an education can be about so much more than academics.

Faith. Character. Responsibility. Fitness. Nature. Curiosity. Work ethic. Community.

We didn’t have some grand plan to build a school. We just wanted something different for our child.

And little by little, other families wanted it too.
Our first week is underway, and standing here watching it all unfold, we are reminded that this was never just about school, it was about childhood, community, and the kind of life we hoped to give our own son.

We are so grateful for every family, every coach and every child walking this path with us. Here’s to another year of learning differently, together.

RANCH DAY 🤎🐂🐾🐓

What an absolute privilege it is to watch these kids living their best lives out here.

Running through pastures.
Loving on animals.
Getting dirty.
Learning with their hands.
Doing real things in the real world.
But more than anything, it’s a reminder that this is our job.

We have to give our kids these experiences.
We have to get them outside, let them work alongside us, teach them where their food comes from, let them care for animals, get dirty, take risks, solve problems and experience life beyond a screen.
Childhood goes fast.
We have to do this with them while we still can. 🫶🏽
Ranch Day might just be one of my favorite days.♥️
