Aucocisco School is both a state-certified special-purpose day school, and an after-school learning center that provides students who learn differently with an opportunity to participate in a quality remedial education in a caring learning environment, specifically designed to meet their individual learning needs. Our students are school-age students, who have difficulty learning in trad
itional educational settings. Our Philosophy
Each child brings their own learning style which, if different enough from the majority, will cause that student significant difficulties in performing up to his or her potential. Each student brings to Aucocisco School a unique set of learning needs, but as importantly, each also brings a unique set of strengths that, if shared and noted, contribute not only to the fabric of the school, but to each student's self-image. Aucocisco School is dedicated to working with students with learning disabilities or learning differences which disrupt their capacity to perform up to their ability levels. We provide each student with a meaningful, interim learning experience, teaching each student the necessary skills to compete on an equal footing with other, equally talented peers. The threatening aspects of the classroom are eliminated, and work is designed within the capabilities of each student. Teachers interact with the child and present material that is challenging but not frustrating. This approach allows the child - perhaps for the first time - to develop a foundation of academic skills and to trust in his or her own abilities. This, in turn, leads to increased motivation, a greater desire to learn, a new feeling of self-confidence, and a willingness to take risks and succeed. Our Educational Methodology
No single remedial method is followed to the exclusion of others. Rather, each child's educational program draws from as many different approaches as needs demand. Classes are multi-age; students learn and advance at their own pace, along their own learning curve. Aucocisco School's low student-teacher ratio allows for flexible programming to address individual needs in each curricular area. Our goal is to provide a community where each child's growth as a person can be successfully supported, in an educational environment where they can be themselves. Aucocisco students are taught to master their learning challenges and come to understand their own unique learning strengths and weaknesses. Students discover how to improve their learning through the proper application of learning strategies, skill building, and compensatory skills. At Aucocisco School, students confirm that who they are is good and that they can make a difference in the world; that they can face the challenges of education, be themselves, and still succeed!
