Empire Elementary School There are currently 269 wonderful students enrolled at Empire along with a dedicated team of 48 certified and classified staff members.

Together with the Empire community of parents, grandparents, volunteers, business partners and staff members, we hold high expectations for our students and staff. While teaching to the Illinois State Standards, our teachers incorporate a variety of instructional strategies to reach each student's learning potential. In this educational setting, instruction is conducted in guided reading groups, leveled math groups and in whole group. We believe quality education can be achieved through high expectations of student performance and behavior; strong family/school/community partnerships; and a dedicated enthusiastic staff committed to providing the best education possible for the students at Empire Elementary. Empire Elementary is a community of caring people who have created a safe and nurturing environment where students feel included, respected and valued. October Attendance Incentives: If kids attend school for 95% (or more) of the day in October, they will participate in a Halloween Rubber Duckie Scavenger Hunt. AND if we earn 50 Eagles as a school by having perfect classroom attendance, we will have a Halloween Costume Party and Parade. WE CAN DO THIS!

Kindergarten did an "Apple Sink or Float" investigation last week, followed by an apple taste test as part of the Apple Unit in science. The kids have been learning about the apple life cycle and its parts. The favorite apple was the green one, followed by the red, then the yellow.

Over 150 students were at school for more than 95% of the days in August and September and will get a Bomb Pop tomorrow....

Over 150 students were at school for more than 95% of the days in August and September and will get a Bomb Pop tomorrow. That is over 67% of the students! Great work, parents, on getting kids to school every day. Great work, teachers, for making school so engaging that kids don't want to miss school. Great work, kids, on coming to school every day!

Empire Third Graders joined other third graders from the area to learn about Native American History, Seed Growth, The Water Cycle, and Illinois Raptors. Kids did activities at Oakdale in cooperation with Ag in the Classroom, the Stephenson County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Traveling Science Center, and the University of Illinois Extension. Fun was had by all!
