Five days after wrapping up at The Philadelphia Flower Show , we were right back at it for Horticulture Expo at Mercer County Community College!

With 35 plant entries and 43 silk & fresh arrangements, it’s been a whirlwind of incredible accomplishments. We couldn’t be more proud of our talented students and the amazing work they entered.

A special congratulations to Adriana Kelley, who took home Best of Division in the Plant Category for her beautiful herb garden.

A special thank you to Delicious Orchards for donating the gorgeous produce that is used to create the vegetable bouquets in our Philadelphia Flower Show exhibit. 🫜🌿 Their generosity helped add a vibrant culinary touch to our Bookshop Garden. Such an exciting day for our students at the Philadelphia Flower Show! They earned First Place in the first round of judging 🙌 Next judging will be Wednesday!

They also met famous floral designer Tu Bloom and joined in on a fun hands-on potting party. What an amazing day! 🌿🌸

We are incredibly proud of our Fruit & Vegetable Team 🫛🍎🥬 placing 1st overall out of 29 teams from across the state.

Congrats to Mr. Neyhart! Thank you for everything you have given to Agriculture Education, the Career Center, and FFA!

This week's alumni achievement award feature is John Neyhart '81. A graduate in Ornamental Horticulture, John began his career in agronomy before finding his passion for teaching. After early work in turf and landscape management, he joined the Monmouth County Vocational School District’s Career Center, where he spent 34 years shaping the next generation of horticulture professionals. His nationally recognized program helped countless students meet and exceed their goals. John has also been active in agricultural education at both state and national levels, earning the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Agricultural Educators in 2022. In retirement, he continues to serve his community through Freehold Township Parks and Recreation, maintaining sports fields alongside several former students. John and his wife, Laurie, also a longtime horticulture educator, have been married for 34 years and take great pride in their children and grandchildren. Congratulations! 🌿 Congratulations to Ashley Castro! 🌿

We’re proud to share that our very own Ashley Castro has been selected as a recipient of the Monmouth County Master Gardeners Scholarship! 🌱

This prestigious award is given to students residing in Monmouth County who have been accepted to college for Fall 2025 and are pursuing degrees in Horticulture, Environmental Sciences, Plant Biology/Botany, Environmental Planning and Design, or related agricultural fields.

Ashley’s passion for plants, dedication to learning, and commitment to horticulture have earned her this incredible opportunity, and we couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead.

👏 Congratulations also to fellow scholarship recipients Joanna McDonald and Jason Veintimilla on their achievements!
