A Gray Day Training "A Horse will never speak English, but a Human can learn to speak Horse" a Gray Day Training

The one absolute belief I have about horses is “A horse cannot learn to speak English, but a human can learn to speak Horse” (Valerie Gray). “Horse” is a universal language. Learning to speak the Horse Language is the key to beginning, building or improving the relationship, attitude and behavior of all horses at any level or discipline. Training a horse to recognize their status in the human world and instructing humans in methods for maintaining this understanding is the most basic aspect of horsemanship, and is often overlooked or undervalued. Natural Horse Training Services are offered for:
• Foundation Building, Ground Manners, Problem Horses and Colt Starting
• New Owners to learn Facts about Horses or Basic Horsemanship
• Beginners Ages 14 and Up in Horseback (Horse Back) Riding Lessons
• Rehabilitation for Adopted Mustang Rescues and Retired Racehorses
• Horse training & full service Boarding Mary D Stables, 2638 Brown Road, Sewickley, PA 15143.
• Horse Trainers available for travel to Eastern Ohio (OH), Western Pennsylvania (PA), and Northern West Virginia (WV)

I am willing to work with any level of horse, owner, rider or combination to assist in reaching the desired relationship. I understand the difficulties faced by new owners unsure of how to manage such an animal and have felt the desire to learn about these marvelous creatures and share a part of my life with them. Most important, for the owner’s who have cried in frustration over the antics of a problem horse, are willing to try anything to find a cure, help is available. Give me a call and we can work together to assess your situation and discover a way to change ‘a gray day into a sunny day’ for you and your equine friends.

So...I took Blue out for my first trail ride with him and he was amazing. I don't want to make this a book, but the 2 knee bashes and occasional turn arounds (he didn't believe where the trail was) are minor and I have zero complaints.
The trail we rode was also the trail for Shadow's last trail ride. If you look carefully to the left, you will see the covered bridge we had to cross. I did not stop for a photo directly in front of it so Blue did not have extra time to think about where we were going.

It isn’t just about riding—it’s about responsibility, respect and looking after one another. Every horse teaches us that actions matter. Feed them before yourself. Leave the yard as you found it. Put things back where they belong. Lend a hand when someone needs it.

These unwritten rules are passed from one generation to the next, shaping not only better horse owners, but better people.

And perhaps the most important rule of all?

When life knocks you down... get back on.

What are the golden rules at your yard that every rider should know?

After losing my beloved Shadow last fall, it has been incredibly difficult to post about horses.

My poor Sporty has developed an ongoing lameness issue and is no longer able to even perform riding lessons at the walk. He will happily stand around as a model and test subject though.

Blazer does not have the best temperament to be a great lesson horse. He is too easily distracted, takes advantage of inattention and likes to pretend to be jumpy at times.

For the last 4 months I have been on the hunt for a new horse.
Those 3 all came to me at a very young age and have lived their lives with me.

I don't have time to raise a new lesson horse, so I have been searching dilligently for the perfect replacement horse.

Sad to say, I'd guess at only 1 in 10 horses found for sale are NOT a scam and lead to an actual horse for sale.

Even then, very few are available to see and "interview" in person. I am Not about to even consider buying a horse from a picture or video. I am not going to send someone money to hold a horse until I can get there to see them in person. Seems to me the best way to lose money and still have no horse.

I finally found one by accident, the seller was happy to accept an in person evaluation. Was fine with getting a local Vet PPE and did not scream and cry about having to wait several weeks to accomplish all of that.

The veterinarian was very thorough, contacted me several times and did her best to answer all my questions, since I was not able to be there in person for the Vet Eval.

The upshot, I hope to drive the 5 hours (one way) this weekend and bring home a new family member and herdmate for my boys.

Meet Bruce, who will be renamed Blue.
(What kind of name is Bruce for a horse?)

I am working on making necessary updates to the website.

I have not been able to keep up with creating Facebook posts either.

I will do my best to reenter the area of giving updates on current horses in progress.

I have a Gypsy Vanner with a sad history and attitude problems that are being adjusted.

A paint mare who recently lost her herd leader and is slowly transitioning to her human Mom for leadership role.

Since I lost my wonderful Shadow last September I am transferring Sport to the full time on site horse for beginner & horsemanship training. He is such a goofball and always so nebby.

Borrowed post for everyone who has horses, or is thinking of bringing a horse into their life: A FOREVER HORSE:
Did you know that less than 1% of horses are lucky enough to have a forever home? Horses give unconditional love and loyalty to their owners, the least we can do is commit to them and ensure they never know cruelty, neglect or hardship. When their time comes, whether it be through injury or old age, they deserve a dignified end instead of having to endure the horrors of the slaughterhouse; their last emotions shouldn't be that of fear, panic and terror! The only way to guarantee your once loved horse doesn't end up on a plate is to be satisfied with them no matter what, and commit to them for life.
A FOREVER HORSE:
Before you consider or think about adopting me, realise I am a FOREVER HORSE.
I am not an.... until you get bored or lose interest in me horse.
I am not an.... until your child goes off to college or finds boys instead horse.
I am not an.... until I get old horse.
I am not an.... until I get lame horse.
I am not an.... until you have to move horse.
I am not an.... until you get a new younger horse horse.
I am not an.... until you get pregnant horse.
I am a FOREVER HORSE.
If you cannot promise FOREVER, I am not your horse.
I have been through too much already.
To ALL our horses!
