Mr. Tim, Mr. Mike, and the rest of the custodial team have been BUSY this summer. Theyโ€™ve completed a deep clean of the buildings, waxed building floors and gyms, and added fresh mulch across the entire campus. New playground equipment and rubber mats under the swings have been installed and ready for a new school year!

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to keeping FGS looking sharp!

Donโ€™t miss open house on Monday, August 10th from 4-6pm!

Last night at our rescheduled April board meeting we held a moment of silence in honor and reflection of our friend Jozie. I wanted to share those words here for those not in attendance.

Moment of Silence to Honor Jozie Kraemer

Before we get started with our regular business, I want to take the time to talk about the loss our school community experienced recently. 3 weeks ago we lost our friend, 3rd Grader Jozie Kraemer to her long & courageous battle with cancer.

Jozie was a vibrant, sassy, kind, and loving girl. She fiercely loved her family and friends. And despite all of the trials she faced the last couple of years, she maintained a fun, energetic, positive attitude and always tried to have a good time.

Jozie inspired the โ€œJozie Strongโ€ movement, a powerful reminder of courage, love, and standing strong in the face of adversity. Her impact has made a permanent mark on the community and in the hearts of those who knew her.

Jozie will never be forgotten here at Freeburg District 70 and her legacy will have a lasting impact.

I also wanted to use this time to say thank you to our staff, especially our social workers Mrs. Gosincski & Mrs. Mueth (who had a heavy lift in this situation), for how they handled everything when this happened. Our staff went above and beyond to support our students, often putting their own grief to the side.

As a district we also want to acknowledge and thank the surrounding districts who helped us by providing crisis counselors for students and staff, as well as a therapy dog.

The district has worked with Jozieโ€™s family, Mrs. Gagen and Mrs. Rogers to come up with some ways to continue Jozieโ€™s legacy here at District 70.

*Pink swings will be placed at the playgrounds of both buildings so that students can remember all the fun times they shared together at recess.

*The Jozie Kraemer award will be created and given out each year at graduation to an 8th grader who displays the same qualities that Jozie regularly displayed.

*The district will host an annual fundraiser to donate to the Friends of Kids with Cancer organization in honor of Jozie.

This has been an unimaginable tragedy but we will get through it together and we will continue to remember and honor Jozie.

Please join me for a moment of silence to remember our friend Jozie. ๐Ÿ’•

Due to the predicted storms this evening, we will be moving the regular April board meeting to next Tuesday, May 5th at 7pm. As a reminder there is a storm shelter at St. Paulโ€™s church in Freeburg that is open to anyone during severe weather. Stay safe!

This has been an exceptionally difficult week for our community and it will leave an impact that will last forever. As hard as it has been, I have been so touched by the stories Iโ€™ve heard, the pink ribbons throughout town, the way the kids have shown up for each other, the way our staff has put everything on hold to be there for the children, and how the larger outside community is supporting Freeburg. There have been so many kind gestures and symbols of love and support in Freeburg and beyond. Keep loving each other and supporting each other in Jozieโ€™s honor. ๐Ÿ’•
