This months Men Of Color Summit B.E.S.T goes to Israel Ortiz ☀️
Israel is not only the
Sophomore Class President,
Student Relations Committee Chair ,
& a SUNY Liaison
He’s also
Sophomore Class Representative ,
University Senator ,The Blackhorse Rugby Vice President &
SUNY Model EU Treasurer✊🏽
Along with positions in
the Eisenhower Hall Council
Fredonia Jumpstart Leader, New Student Orientation Leader, Multi Cultural Weekend Host
Campus Host.
Mr Ortiz has also showed great achievements in winning the
Princeton Prize in Race Relations Award & being a
Dale Carnegie Public Speaker.
His message of encouragement to other men of color on campus is :
“Black men standup,
You are the strongest of the strong, the fastest of the fast, and soul of our nation. Our color is looked at as a curse, but you must see it as a blessing. The system is built to hold you back, you were never meant to succeed. You were never meant to prosper but look at you. Your prison bed was made for you 10 years ago based off of your third grade reading scores. Never were you supposed to make it this far, never were you supposed graduate high school, never were you supposed to enroll in college. You flipped the narrative and took hold of your own life. Now black man you shall rise. You’ve defied every odd placed before you, and you will continue to strive. I lead by example, but we are all leaders. We are all blessed with the gift of influence. They flock to us, they mirror us, they mimic us- let your inner greatness shine. With the heart of a lion and spirt of fire, you black man are unmatched. Young Kings, grow strive and prosper.”
