If you have not heard the New World Screw Worm (NWS) has made its way to Gillespie County!

For those of you with animal projects or those getting them soon, here are some tips and guidelines to get through this:

Monitor your animals for cuts or locations where flys can lay eggs.

Postpone or monitor closely-
Tail docking
Castration
Dehorning
Ear Tags
Shearing cuts

Pay close attention to newborn livestock as the umbilical chord is a common point of infestation.

Please contact your veterinarian for the best options and routines to prevent NWS from spreading to your livestock.
These are 2 that my vet told me:
-Treat with injectable Dectomax or Ivermectin per label directions.

-Make sure to have a fly/screwworm topical spray for wounds if they occur.

- If your animals are experiencing Coccidiosis, be sure to treat for that, but also clean the f***s off of the animal and spray the area with fly spray.

NWS is certainly something to take serious, but this is not the first or last time we will face this issue. Take care of your animals, including pets, by checking them daily and by following protocols established by your veterinarian.

Another day closer to early voting… time for today’s "Did You Know?"

Did you know?
The proposed new Fredericksburg High School would be built on district-owned land.

The current concept didn’t come from one person. It was developed by a master planning committee of teachers, parents, and community members who worked together to study needs and explore options.

There is still more planning ahead, with continued opportunities for community involvement. This election determines what those next steps are.

It’s almost time. Make a plan to make YOUR VOICE heard.

Location of Early Voting and Election Day: Gillespie County Elections Office | 95 Frederick Rd.
When:
Early Voting Week 1: April 20, 22, 23 & 24 (Closed April 21) | 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Early Voting Week 2: April 27 & 28 | 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Election Day: May 2 | 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
