The Science Behind the Med School Fit Check🥼✨
POV: You realize your morning routine is actually a strategic survival mechanism.
We are reacting to Dr. Milan, D.O. (), and we love seeing the “day in the life” and scrub fit checks! On the surface, hospital makeup routines and perfectly curated scrubs might seem like vanity, but there is some real behavioral activation at play here.
The journey to becoming a physician is incredibly demanding. Maintaining the “soft moments” and your unique personality in a not-so-soft career is crucial so you do not lose your personhood. As we often discuss in our Facilitated Sessions, these daily rituals—whether it is a morning workout or a flawless fit check—are vital for grounding yourself. They physically and mentally signal to your brain that it is time to step into your professional role and utilize the attention necessary for doctoring.
Do not lose yourself in the process of becoming a doctor. Keep your rituals alive!

The #1 Risk to Your Medical Career Right Now 🚨🤫
POV: You realize a single screenshot can cost you your entire medical career.
We are reacting to a critical PSA from Mimi, M.D | The Black Girl Doc () and breaking down a vital reality for pre-meds, medical students, and residents. In the era of social media, it is easy to want to post think pieces, comment on controversial medical topics, or debate consult etiquette online. But here is the hard truth: medicine is still a highly traditional, hierarchical field where professionalism red flags can completely derail your journey.
You can retake a board exam, but navigating a professionalism violation from a dean or program director is an entirely different battle.
This post is an essential resource for pre-med students navigating the 2026-2027 medical school application cycle and current students alike. Protecting your professional identity starts before you even submit your primary applications.
If you need to vent about the toxic aspects of the field or system, keep it safe:
🚀 Lean on your family.
🚀 Vent to friend group.
🚀 Confide in a trusted mentor who can guide you
through the hierarchy.
Keep your eye on the ultimate prize: obtaining your degree, matching into your specialty, and serving your patients. Do not let a temporary post create a permanent roadblock.

AMCAS Season is Officially Here! 🚨🩺
The 2026-2027 medical school application cycle is wide open, which means it is time to lock in your strategy. If you are a pre-med applying this cycle, we created this resource specifically for you to help you curate the perfect school list.
Choosing where you will study medicine is a huge deal. It is all about securing your “MD” home for the next four years of your life!
Swipe through to see our top tips for building your list, and check out the breakdown below:
1️⃣ Stick to a reasonable number. Applying to 50 schools is a quick path to burnout. Keep your list focused and realistic so you can actually give your secondary applications the attention they deserve.
2️⃣ Consider your personal preferences (location). You are going to be living, studying, and working there for four years. Make sure the city matches your vibe and offers the support system you need!
3️⃣ Take the time to be introspective and do your research. Deep dive into their mission statements. Do their values actually align with why you chose medicine in the first place?
4️⃣ Do not solely pick schools to apply to based upon metrics and “credibility”. A big name does not automatically equal the best environment for your specific learning style and mental health.
5️⃣ Determine what kind of doctor you want to become. If you know you want to work in community health or a highly specialized surgical subspecialty, look for programs that offer robust clinical exposure in those specific areas.
6️⃣ Make the decision for you and only you. Do not pick a school just to impress your family or people on the internet. Choose the program where you will thrive.
Was this helpful? Be sure to save it as a resource while you finalize your primary application!

The Ultimate Med School Cheat Code 🤫🩺
POV: You realize the biggest myth in medicine is the idea of being “self made.”
We are reacting to an amazing point by Licia, MD () and breaking down why mentorship is the most slept on factor in your medical school journey! The truth is that no one makes it through medicine entirely by themselves. Anyone who claims they did it alone is not being honest or authentic about what it takes to succeed.
Having a strong support network and longitudinal mentorship is the true secret weapon. The data speaks for itself. Students with active mentorship perform better across the board:
🚀Getting accepted into medical school
🚀Crushing the MCAT
🚀 Navigating board exams and clerkships
🚀Matching into their top choice specialty
Having the right information at the right time allows you to make the right decisions. Do not try to navigate this complex path solo!

Happy Pride Month from Ascension Medical Educators! 🏳️🌈🩺
As we celebrate Pride this June, it is also crucial that we ask an important question: Why care?
In healthcare, awareness and proactive allyship matter because the data shows a stark disparity. Currently, 1 in 3 le***an, gay, or bisexual adults experience a mental health condition in a given year. This is significantly higher compared to the 1 in 6 prevalence seen in heterosexual adults.
As future and current medical professionals, we must actively work to understand these disparities to provide safe, inclusive, and equitable care for every single patient. Mental health is healthcare, and building a supportive clinical environment saves lives.

Mentorship is the ultimate cheat code for navigating the medical pipeline!🚀🩺
You do not have to figure out medical school entirely on your own. Building a solid network of guidance is crucial for your professional identity and success.
Swipe through to learn why you should find mentors.
Here are the best ways to find mentorship:
-Observe the residents and attendings to see who leads with the empathy and skill you want to emulate.
-Connect with Principal Investigators (P*s) since they are natural mentors who can guide both your clinical and academic interests.
-Join groups like the AMA, ACP, or surgical interest groups because they often have formal “Speed Mentoring” events.
-Reach out to your medical school’s alumni in the specialty you are eyeing because they love helping “their own”.
Once you find them, here is how to lock in that connection:
-Keep it brief by sending a 3 to 4 line email clearly stating who you are and why you are reaching out.
-Make a “small ask” by requesting a 15 minute “journey talk” rather than a formal commitment.
-Show interest by referencing a specific paper they wrote or a case they presented.
-Always follow up and send a thank you note within 24 hours of your meeting.
Will you give this a try? Leave a comment below! 👇 Let us know who your biggest mentor has been so far!

Consistency equals perfection.
It all boils down to having confidence in your discipline and your mastery. When you dig deep with true tenacity, you build an identity that does not waver when things get shaky. Your morals, your study practices, your mindset, and your daily habits are exactly what allow you to weather the storm.
As educators and mentors, our goal is to help you re-engage those core parts of who you are. Sometimes all it takes is strategic advising and mentorship to help you stay on track during your journey to physicianship.
You never have to lose your identity. Lifting as we climb.

What Matters Most When a Life Is on the Line
“The patient is not going to ask you what school you went to. They are going to ask you if everything is going to be alright.”
Dr. David L. Taylor, CEO of Ascension Medical Educators
The medical pipeline often places a heavy focus on academic milestones and the name on your degree. However, when you are standing at the bedside, it is your humanity that takes center stage. 🩺✨
When a patient looks you in the eyes during a moment of crisis, they are not evaluating your academic pedigree. They are looking for an anchor. They want a baseline of reassurance, operational competence, and radical empathy.
As clinicians, healthcare leaders, and medical educators, our ultimate metric is not the weight of our CV. It is our immediate capacity to bring absolute calm to someone else’s storm. True clinical excellence is not just about what you know; it is about how safely and empathetically you communicate that knowledge when a life is on the line.
Keep your focus locked on the human being sitting on the exam table. That is where real medicine happens. 💡
