Such an honor to be invited out by the 11th Airborne Division and Jeremy Holm to be a part of the casing colors ceremony for the last airborne cav squadron, 1-40, and the reactivation of 1-511. I can honestly say it's the highest point of my time reenacting, and I'm not sure any event will ever truly compare.

I cannot express how thankful I am to the 11th Airborne Division to be a part of this historic transition and the revitalization of the 511th.

Getting back to my roots:

Anti-tank gunner, Able Co, 517th PIR, Operation Dragoon, August 17, 1944.

A bit of a return to form going back to lesser-known European airborne impressions. This time, the folks of Baker 505th inspired me to finally get around to building out my 517th kit I've been sitting on for years. The webgear layout is heavily inspired by photos in Michael De Trez's 1st Airborne Task Force book, which notes the 517th almost all had multiple combat knives and made extensive use of captured sidearms.

The triple carbine pouch with a lineman's tool was taken directly from a photo of a 517th trooper as was the idea to make a leg knife strap from the belt of an m42 jump jacket.

I'm really excited to get this kit finished up and start using it at events.

Putting the injured on the line, February 10, 1945.

"By the end of the day, Hacksaw's 2nd Battalion, which had led the brunt of the fighting thus far, was down to less than two hundred men - they'd jumped into Tagaytay with five hundred two paratroopers... Haugen needed more men. He radioed Swing's headquarters calling for troopers injured in the parachute drop to be sent forward. Sprained ankle or not, if a man could pull a trigger, he was needed." "as they were told they were being given a break, Capt. Stephen Cavanaugh selected an assembly point for D-511 several hundred yards to the rear near Paranaque Bridge where they could clean up and get a hot meal. As his troopers moved back, the fatigued captain grew frustrated with what appeared to be a delay in assembly. Nerves frayed from a week in combat Cavanaugh chewed out his new 1 SGT Paul T. Farnsworth for the men's sluggishness. With a pained look in his eyes, Paul quietly replied to his captain, "Sir, that's all there is." Everyone else is gone. Farnsworth's words hit Rusty like a sledgehammer. He noted, "Between the 5th and 10th of February D Company sustained thirty-eight men killed or wounded. One week to go:

In one week, I'll be traveling to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson with a number of the best 511th reenactors there are. We have been invited by the 11th Airborne Division to attend the reactivation of the 1st Battalion, 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

I'm incredibly grateful to the staff at the 11thand to Jeremy Holm for giving me such an amazing opportunity.

I've been on a bit of an event hiatus, but I feel a need to talk about one of the best in our little reenactment community.

I've been working on restoring this early, transitional Inland helmet liner, and I can't be more thankful to Jmurray inc https://jmurrayinc1944.com/ . It started with me asking for some advice, and Josh offered to make me a custom set of transitional webbing and the spare rivets to replace the fixed chinstrap while preserving the original hardware.

Once those custom parts arrived, I quickly found that parts of the helmet liner had started to rot away and as I was removing the old rivets, chunks of the liner were coming out with the old rivets, turning my restoration into a waste. Again, an email to Josh, and he was so kind as to provide advice for how to strengthen the damaged sections of the liner, as well as a way to refill the holes and strengthen them to re-install the webbing.

All throughout this restoration, it was so obvious to me that he very easily could have kept his advice secret, told me to send the liner to him, and made much more off my project by doing the custom work and installation himself. I can't overstate how appreciative I am of his kindness, willingness to respond quickly, and give some really fantastic advice when I got myself into a mess, and the extra work he was willing to put in, just so I could restore a liner to its original condition.

Anyways, all that to say, I'm incredibly thankful to Josh, his wife, and the work they do to help the reenacting community, and it probably goes without saying, that a wholeheartedly recommend his products and services.

Skyjumpers (Angels Edition) with the was a resounding success. We were able to share the storied history of the 11th Airborne Division with 738 people, and met the descendants of two Angels, one of who was a Los Banos raider. A fantastic rehearsal for our trip to Anchorage to participate and share the history of the 11th to the soon to be 511th PIR
