Founder post.

Read it or don’t.

Agree with it or don’t.

I genuinely do not care.

What I care about is dogs.

And I am sick of watching dogs pay the price because we are more committed to controlling behavior than understanding it.

I am sick of watching dogs be labeled aggressive, reactive, stubborn, difficult, unpredictable, dangerous, dominant, or resistant before we’ve done everything possible to understand why the behavior is happening in the first place.

Behavior is information.

A growl is information.

A bite is information.

Avoidance is information.

Shutting down is information.

Restlessness is information.

Hypervigilance is information.

A sudden behavioral change is information.

The question is not:

“How do we stop it?”

The question is:

“Why is it happening?”

I am not a veterinarian.

I spent three years in veterinary school before choosing a different path and dedicating my life to animal behavior and psychology.

Since then, I have devoted my fu***ng life to understanding dogs.

And one lesson has repeated itself over and over and over again:

Pain gets missed.

Not because guardians don’t care.

Not because veterinarians don’t care.

Not because trainers don’t care.

Because dogs are incredibly good at hiding it.

And because humans are often looking at the behavior instead of listening to what the behavior is trying to tell us.

I cannot tell you how many dogs I have worked with over the years who were referred for aggression, reactivity, handling sensitivity, resource guarding, anxiety, hypervigilance, or sudden behavioral changes only to discover there was a medical component sitting underneath the behavior the entire time.

Hip dysplasia.

Arthritis.

Orthopedic pain.

Neurological issues.

GI discomfort.

Chronic inflammation.

Pain.

And here’s the part that people need to hear:

You cannot behavior-modify your way out of untreated pain.

You cannot counter-condition a hip.

You cannot reinforce away arthritis.

You cannot train a nervous system into feeling safe when the body itself is screaming that something hurts.

Read that again.

Because I think this is where we fail dogs.

We become obsessed with the how.

How do we stop the growling?

How do we stop the biting?

How do we stop the reactivity?

How do we stop the behavior?

Meanwhile the dog is over here begging us to figure out the why.

Why does touch suddenly bother them?

Why can’t they settle?

Why are they avoiding interaction?

Why are they reacting differently than they did six months ago?

Why are they communicating distress?

The dog gets a vote.

The dog gets a voice.

And behavior is often the loudest voice they have.

So no, one appointment should not automatically end the conversation.

If your dog is still telling you something is wrong, keep digging.

Seek another opinion.

Seek orthopedics.

Seek rehabilitation.

Seek neurology.

Seek internal medicine.

Keep investigating until the story makes sense.

Every behavior professional.

Every trainer.

Every consultant.

Every veterinarian.

Every single person involved in helping a dog should be asking the same question first:

Could this be pain?

Before we label.

Before we diagnose.

Before we build behavior plans.

Before we talk about training.

Before we talk about aggression.

Before we talk about reactivity.

Before we EVER talk about euthanasia.

Could this dog be hurting?

Because you cannot behavior-modify your way out of untreated pain.

Because I am sick of watching dogs die because we wanted control before we wanted understanding.

I am sick of watching dogs die because we were more focused on stopping the behavior than understanding the cause.

And if you know anything about me, you know this:

I will choose the dog every single time.

I don’t care how that makes the human feel.

The dog comes first.

Always.

Do your fu***ng part.

Listen when they’re trying to tell you something hurts.

What if behavior is only part of the story?

Itchy skin.

Chewing paws.

Chronic ear issues.

Digestive upset.

Anxiety.

Difficulty settling.

For years, I’ve helped families connect the dots between behavior, nutrition, lifestyle, and overall wellness.

Many of you know me through my behavior work. What you may not know is that I’ve spent years studying canine nutrition, raw feeding, osteopathy, and now animal herbology as well.

Today, I’m excited to introduce Rewilded Wellness™.

Whole Dog. Whole Story.

A personalized wellness blueprint designed to help guardians look beyond the symptoms and better understand the whole dog.

Founding wellness appointments are now pre booking.

Today, the letters started coming off the wall.

And while to some it may look like we’re simply changing a name or updating a brand, for me it represents something much bigger.

The last 26 years of my life have been dedicated to dogs and the people who love them. I’ve had the privilege of helping thousands of families navigate behavior challenges, build stronger relationships, and better understand the animals sharing their lives.

Along the way, I’ve learned something important:

The work was never just about training.

It was about connection.

It was about understanding.

It was about meeting dogs where they are and helping people see the world through their eyes.

Over the last several years, that vision has continued to expand. What began as behavior evolved into conversations about enrichment, nutrition, wellness, instinct, lifestyle, community, and the incredible relationship between dogs and the humans who love them.

That’s what The Rewilded Experience™ has always been building toward.

So tonight, as those letters come down, I’m not mourning what was.

I’m celebrating what comes next.

Thank you to every family, every dog, every team member, every supporter, and every person who believed in this vision long before it had a name.

We’re just getting started.

🌸 Paws in the Garden 🌸

This week our guests are slowing down, sniffing a little longer, and exploring a space designed just for them.

Fresh florals.
New scents.
Soft textures.
Opportunities to investigate, discover, and simply enjoy being a dog.

Because instinctual enrichment isn’t always about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about creating space to just be a dog.

Bucky spent his morning doing what dogs do best sniffing, exploring, and experiencing the world around him.

🌿 Rewilded Question of the Week

Every week we'll be asking a question and inviting our community into the conversation.

This week's question:

What is one thing you wish was easier about life with your dog?

No judgment. No right or wrong answers.

We're listening.

“I can’t buy him toys. He just destroys them.”

Our response?

“And?”

We don’t say:
“I can’t buy my dog food. They just eat it.”

Yet somehow we’ve decided toys should last forever.

Dogs aren’t children. They don’t collect toys. They don’t admire them from a shelf. They don’t care what they cost.

Many dogs need to shred.
They need to disembowel.
They need to chew.
They need to shake.

For some dogs, finding the squeaker is the entire mission.

That’s not bad behavior.
That’s dog behavior.

The problem isn’t that your dog destroyed the toy.

The problem is that we’ve been taught the toy’s purpose is to survive.

What if its purpose was to be destroyed?

At Woof Houze, we believe enrichment isn’t about preserving the toy. It’s about fulfilling the dog.

They eat the food.
They shred the toy.
They dig the hole.
They bark.
They shed.

They’re dogs.

And when we stop expecting them to act like tiny humans, we can finally start meeting the needs of the species we chose to live with.

The toy fulfilled its purpose. Apollo fulfilled his. Thank goodness for the discount bins.

We’re excited to introduce you to the Rewilded Experience™. 💚

For years, many of you have watched my work evolve from obedience and high-level behavior cases into something much deeper rooted in relationship, regulation, emotional safety, and understanding dogs in the environments where they are often most vulnerable.

That realization is what led to the creation of WagTime ™ under the Woof Houze umbrella.

Because many dogs do not simply need “exercise.”

They need support.

Support outdoors.
Support while navigating the world on leash.
Support while balancing a very busy world.

Some dogs have very big feelings outdoors.
Others simply need slower movement, thoughtful companionship, consistency, and someone willing to move at their pace.

WagTime™ was created to provide relationship-centered canine care and behavior-aware stroll support for dogs who deserve more than transactional walks.

If your dog struggles outdoors, feels overwhelmed on leash, or simply needs more thoughtful support throughout the week, we’d love to connect with you. 💚
