This week has been full of joyful learning, connecting, and fun! Yesterday, we welcomed Adruma and Anasatsia with Performing Arts Center for African Cultures. The arboretum and weather allowed us to have a beautiful experience under the cover of trees and shade.

Adruma enveloped us in drumming and Anastasia taught us African dance. Drumming focuses on patterns supporting math and reading skills. Drumming also supports hand/eye coordination. Dance is a form of expression and together with drumming, families gain a sense of community.

This morning was Donuts with our Dudes and Whee'll Play! Families brought bikes, scooters, or used our bikes, trikes, and scooters. The large open space of the black top offered space to follow a road drawn by dads from chalk. We had over 75 people in attendance today!

Some kiddos were zooming around and others were more cautious, learning how to engage their large muscles to make the trike go forward, and one kiddos liked going backward! We shared lots of wheel shaped donuts with our friends, dads, grandpas, moms, cousins, brothers, uncles, and everyone else!

Navigating our body's ability to pedal and steer, and other bikes on the blacktop were huge lessons today. Sharing the bike we brought with friends was another way to build relationships and recognize how fun this is!

Chocolate, glazed, or filled - oh my! Thanks to our dudes (and others) for bringing kiddos to this event!

Programming this week, was amazing! Friendships grew stronger, someone went home with a high chair, one friend mowed the lawn, another friend received a stroller, we fished, and we played with giant bugs in the dirt (flour, cocoa powder, oil, and corn starch) and Miss Erika heard lots of giggles from tickly paintbrushes on toes.

During our final pre-k practice class, Dr. Baisey, Lincoln Elementary Principal, answered families questions while Miss Erika took rising pre-k students to visit Mrs. Midgette and Mrs. Frank's pre-k classroom, where they had the chance to listen to a story, interact with current pre-k students, and get to know pre-k!

Today was our Mini-Health Fair, which we host every 6 months, to connect children and families to the dental hygienist, community nurse, and audiologist for important dental, vision, and hearing screenings.

Thank you to our audiologist, Mary Kay with Frederick County Health Department Frederick County Developmental Center.

Thank you to our very own Community Nurse, Katy at Lincoln Elementary.

Thank you to Maria and Kelly with our local pediatric dental clinic at Frederick County Health Department Frederick County Developmental Center for your expertise and guidance with families.

We screened 11 children (and four stuffed animals)!

Oh, and our budding veterinarians and future pediatricians were also here today to take care of our stuffies and our Judy Center baby, Beatrix.

Enjoy these fantastic pictures of our morning.

Yesterday, Lincoln Elementary Judy Center Early Learning Hub hosted our first Simply Stitched Sewing Basics class with Hillary of That's Sew Hillary! We had 13 Judy Center adults in attendance.

Hillary brought 8 machines with her and several families brought their own machines to learn the basics of sewing with a sewing machine. Judy Center families helped each other, babies slept, and Miss Holly heard much laughing and joy. We even held the class is three languages: English, ASL, and Spanish.

Next week, we will begin a sewing project with Miss Hillary's guidance. https://www.facebook.com/thats.sew.hillary Hillary is a creative talented teacher and our families were thrilled to begin this process.

Can't wait to see what everyone creates!

Lincoln Elementary School Judy Center Early Learning Hub has been busy, exploring, creating, learning, and laughing. Check out our last week of adventures!

Have you heard of aquafaba? It is the liquid in the can of garbanzo beans and it can turn into a pretty cool edible substance to explore!
Here is the recipe: https://artfulparent.com/how-to-make-aquafaba-a-taste-safe-sensory-play-material-for-kids/

What do with the beans? Add them to a salad, make hummus, or roast them in the over with garlic, salt, and pepper for a crunchy delicious and healthy snack! https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/a32292000/roasted-chickpeas-recipe/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=mgu_ga_del_md_pmx_prog_org_us_18345007169&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=18339119658&gbraid=0AAAAACq-IPz7P7iAlzhmvhAnWI3NstF9t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI57WKysKQlAMVB2VHAR0K4R7QEAAYASAAEgLJMvD_BwE

Last Friday, Family Advocates came to playgroup to talk about Head Start and Early Head Start, and how to apply. Families were interested in learning more!

We also used metal trays as mirrors to try out different expressions matching our book - Making Faces: A First Book of Emotions
by Abrams Appleseed. Children enjoy looking at the faces of real children in books!

Stay tuned for more learning adventures this week!
