Coming Out of the Broom Closet on Pagan Pride Day

Frederick’s second annual Pagan Pride Day will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick. People of all ages and spiritual backgrounds are welcome. The event will include information booths, workshops, live music, vendors and other activities celebrating the Autumn Equinox, a time of thanksgiving in many Pagan traditions. An item of non-perishable food will be accepted as admission and donated to The Foodbank Program operated by the Frederick Community Action Agency. Frederick’s very first Pagan Pride Day in September of 2015 drew over 336 people during the course of the day and raised 331 pounds of food for The Foodbank Program. The International Pagan Pride Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of prejudice and religious discrimination through education, activism, charity and community. Pagan Pride celebrations are held annually around the world within two weeks of the Autumn Equinox. In 2013, there were 98 Pagan Pride events across the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Rome and Austria. 2013 event attendance was 65,717: an increase in attendance by over 20,000 when compared to 2012. The events collected a total of 39,962.80 pounds of nonperishable food. The food drive gives participants a way to share with those who are less fortunate while making a positive statement about Paganism. For decades Pagans have been wrongly accused of practicing devil-worship and performing “black magic.” In reality most Pagans enjoy a religion emphasizing respect for nature, humanity, and oneself. Modern Paganism, or Neo-Paganism, is a growing religious movement based on combinations of ancient polytheism, modern eco-spirituality, and reverence for the Divine as both masculine and feminine. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick is located at 4880 Elmer Derr Road. Frederick Pagan Pride is hosted by Frederick CUUPS (Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans). Happy Autumnal Equinox/Haustblót/Mabon! The 10th Frederick Pagan Pride Day is THIS SATURDAY, September 26th, from 10 AM - 6 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick. Full details are at FrederickPaganPride dot com. Here are our suggestions for what to bring:

~ A donation to one of the three charities we're supporting this year (The Frederick Food Bank, the Frederick Animal Shelter, and the Western Maryland Immigrant Rights Collective).

~ a picnic blanket, camp or other folding chair for attending the workshops and watching performances. Some seating is available but we're anticipating a large turnout.

~ There will be water filling stations, so a water bottle is also recommended.

~ Cash if you would like to enter the raffle.

~ Spending money for our wonderful vendors.

~ A hand drum or other percussion if you’d like to participate in the drum circle. Some instruments will be available for loan.

~ Sunblock/bug spray/rain gear if you need it.

~ Comfortable shoes!

The 10th Frederick Pagan Pride Day is Saturday, September 26th, from 10 AM - 6 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick. Every year, our festival features a RAFFLE! Community members and our incredible vendors donate wonderful items to support the festival. Remember to bring cash if you would like to enter the raffle ($2 each or 3 for $5). The raffle is CASH ONLY. Winners will be drawn after the main ritual (right around 3 PM). You do not have to be present to win, but you MUST pick up your prize at the UUCF within two weeks of the festival.

Frederick’s tenth Pagan Pride Day is Saturday, September 26th, 2026, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick from 10 AM to 6 PM. People of all ages and spiritual backgrounds are welcome. Admission is a donation to one of three organizations we are supporting this year. You are welcome to bring an item of non-perishable commercially prepared food (no home canned goods, unfortunately) for The Foodbank Program operated by the Frederick Community Action Agency. Frederick Pagan Pride Day is also supporting Frederick County Animal Control. Donations for the Adoption Center can also be given as admission. FCAC is requesting UNOPENED PACKAGES of canned food of any variety, dry food (Iams is preferred, but they will take any sort), bleach, sponges and Dawn dish soap. Other pet supplies are welcome, but must be UNOPENED. Lastly, we are proud to support The Western Maryland Immigrant Rights Collective. WMD-IRC supports families who have lost a loved one to ICE, including families with young children. WMD-IRC is requesting baby food, diapers sizes 5 – 7, and baby wipes.

As always, we will be offering a raffle! Raffle tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5, cash ONLY. The raffle drawing is after the main ritual at around 2:45 PM or so. You do not have to be present to win, but any prizes not collected by Saturday, October 10th, are forfeit.

The TENTH Frederick Pagan Pride Day is Saturday, September 26th, from 10 AM to 6 PM at 4880 Elmer Derr Road in Frederick, MD. Let’s talk about parking!

Carpool if you can or consider taking a rideshare service to the event. Parking gets tight at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick and the existing parking lot generally fills early. When the parking lot becomes full (and it will), a shuttle service will be running from the Park and Ride located at the intersection of Cap Stine Road and Mount Zion Road (see map). If you have a group traveling together, please drop your folks off at the event site, then park your car and take the shuttle. It makes the shuttle run a lot faster if the only person using the shuttle service is the driver of the car.

Volunteers needed! Frederick Pagan Pride Day is on Saturday, September 26th, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick. It’s our 10th year and we are so excited to see everyone! 🎉 To make a day like this happen takes a village, and we could use a few more volunteers. White Rose Witching serves the Mid-Atlantic Pagan community by creating space for q***r-centered and q***r-affirming spirituality. Rev. Ron Padrón works to uplift the histories of our Q***r Ancestors and provides spiritual care for the q***r and trans community that continues their legacy of celebration, activism, and resistance. Their work focuses on providing community leaders with the skills they need to create more inclusive and affirming spaces, and connecting practitioners and seekers to their roots as spiritual activists and changemakers. The tenth Frederick, Maryland, Pagan Pride Day is on Saturday, September 26th from 10 AM - 6 PM. Admission is a donation of shelf-stable, commercially prepared food for the Frederick Food Bank, a donation of UNOPENED pet food or supplies for the Animal Shelter, OR a donation of baby supplies (food, diapers, wipes) for the Western Maryland Immigrant Rights Collective. This year's goal is 1000 lbs of food and supply donations! The last time we broke 1000 lbs was in 2022. Are you ready to help us make a big difference in the local community?
