These students, age 6 -16 and hailing from four towns – Cedartown, Rockmart, Villa Rica, and Rome – are truly special! Committed to learning American Sign Language (ASL), they’re ready to showcase their skills this Saturday, November 9th. While they may not be fluent signers, they understand the value of ASL and Deaf Culture.
I hope you’ll join us and consider learning ASL, too! All public schools should consider offering ASL and Deaf Culture classes from pre-K through high school.

My column today briefly explains what our ASL students have been doing and extends an invitation to a special event, “Celebrating ASL and Deaf Culture with Community Helpers,” on November 9th from 11 AM to 2 PM. Come out and support our ASL students—your presence will mean so much! 🤟🏻
And that’s not all! Later that day, the West Cinema will be showing “HitPig,” an open-captioned movie, at 3:30 PM. It will be the first of the open-captioned movies shown every second Saturday of each month.
Will we see y’all at both events? We sure hope so! 🤞🏻♥️
