This is going to be a wonderful week ahead as we start to move up the spine to the higher chakras. This week we will focus on the throat chakra!
Second Chakra: Vissudha (purification), Fifth Chakra
Element: Sound
Color: Bright Blue
This chakra -located at the throat- governs communication, creativity, listening, resonance, and finding one's own voice.
Ever notice disorders of the throat, ears, voice or neck? Tightness of the jaw? Toxicity in the body? These physical malfunctions can all be associated with an imbalance fifth chakra.
On your mat this week we will focus loosening the neck and shoulders to increase blood and energy flow to the brain.
Catch me on the mat this week:
Sunday: 10:00a - 11:30a Vinyasa Flow
at Ananda Shala Yoga, Pilates and More
Tuesday/ Thursday: 6:00a - 7:00a Vinyasa Flow
at Ananda Shala Yoga, Pilates and More

Inversions are so effective that you can achieve a lot of benefits just by inverting 3-5 mins every day.
- Relieves Spinal Pain
One of the basic advantages of inversions is that it relieves spinal pain to a great extent. It enables a person to have a better posture.
- Improves Blood Circulation
Inversions increase the blood flow to the brain, giving it more oxygen and nutrients and making the brain function faster and better. This improves concentration, memory, observation and boosts clear thinking.
- Controlling Indigestion
Inversions are the yogic approach to control indigestion. Indigestion, which may cause anxiety and skin disorders, is considerably improved when one practices inversions.
- Decreasing Mood Swings
Standing upside down can actually make you feel better! When blood circulation gets fine, this releases neurotransmitters, balances the hormones which make a person feel light hearted and more happy than usual. So, if you are really sad, try doing inversions! It might make you feel a lot better!
- Enhancing Immunity
Inversions increase the ability of a person’s body to fight with diseases. Since it cleans the blood, an overall healthy feeling is maintained.
- Countering Insomnia
Inversions also help to decrease insomnia. When your mind is all relaxed and in high spirits because of the healthy blood flow, a person will be able to sleep better.
- Look Beautiful and Feel Beautiful
This is an amazing benefit of inversions. Inversions can actually make you beautiful. When a person’s posture is improved through inversion, it shows grace, poise and sophistication. Good circulation will automatically bring brightness to the skin making the person look younger than he/she originally is. Acne and other skin conditions will also tend to decrease with performing inversions.
- Flexibility
Inversion makes the body flexible and adaptable to changes. A flexible body remains healthy and strong even when it reaches old age.
- Maintaining Proper Posture
For athletes or workers who perform lots of physical work, inversion is the best to keep the spine in proper posture. It will also reduce tardiness and will gain back your strength after a workout. Inversion therapy works wonders for the lower back pain caused by this physical work. It also helps reduce muscle pain.
- Strengthening Bones
Inversion helps to make ligaments strong which are one of the basic elements of your bones. Ligaments hold your bones together. When they’re strong, you will often be saved from a bone breaking accident.
Stress Therapy
Inversion is an amazing therapy to counter stress. When a person is under a lot of stress, his body tends to revolt by back pains, headaches and joint muscle pains.

Yay!! We are working our way up and this week the focus in each class I teach will be on the fourth chakra |Heart Chakra|
This is such a beautiful and divine chakra to focus on. The heart chakra is located at the center of your body; your heart. It is where the lower chakra and the upper chakras meet. Heaven and Earth.
The heart chakra is alllll about balance.
Balance leads to harmony.
"To heal the heart is to reunite mind and body, the mystical and mundane, self and other into an integrated whole."
"Without love, there is no binding force to hold our world together. Without love, our Rainbow Bridge collapse in the middle and we fall into the chasm of seperation below."
This week the postures will revolve around heart openers. Heart openers are known to combat depression and anxiety. They leave you feeling energized, uplifted and open!
How amazing would it be if our week was filled with compassion, love, empathy, self-love, peace and balance? Those are all characteristics of a balanced heart chakra

“Instead, will is the realization that we can regard each challenge as an opportunity to awaken to our highest potential. This does not deny what has come before, but incorporates it, using it as a springboard for the future. While we can’t always control what happens to us, we can control what we do about it.”
The quote above is a beautiful embodiment of the awareness that is brought when we focus on and balance our second chakra.
Teaching about the chakras in my yoga classes directly teaches them to me on a very deep level.
It's funny how life works... the universe is so responsive. Anything that I begin to work on and acknowledge internally shows up in my life outwardly with a big BANG. I guess I have to see those moments as opportunities to put into action what I so deeply figured out within.
“Obstacles do not appear in your way in order to stop you. Rather, they appear in order to strengthen and hone you and your plans. They are not your enemy. They are your secret ally, but only if you treat them as friendly forces of nature.”
