The Infants and Toddlers Program promotes all different types of play. Many young children participate in several different types of play depending on the child's temperament, setting, activity and development. Read about the various types of play in children exhibit in early childhood.

Parallel play is more social than it looks.

Two toddlers may be side by side, each focused on their own toys, with barely a word between them. But a lot of learning can be happening. They’re watching, imitating, exploring, communicating. And getting more comfortable sharing space with other children.

For early childhood professionals, these everyday moments can offer a window into a child’s social, language, cognitive and motor development.

And an important reminder: stages of play aren’t rigid deadlines. Children may move between different types of play depending on the activity, setting and people around them.

Tomorrow staff from the Frederick County Developmental Center will be at the 2nd Annual Diaper Drive. If you have diapers, baby wipes or menstrual products you would like to DONATE please see the attached information. The event is from 9am-noon on Saturday, September 19 at Basal Therapies and Preschool located at 8411 Broadland Drive Suite C & D, Frederick MD 21701. This is a wonderful way to give back to our community, and we appreciate all that Blessed Provisions Diaper & Toiletry Bank has done for Frederick County families.

This initiative provides an excellent opportunity to educate children about sustainable practices, gardening, and environmental stewardship. This summer, Leslie Gray, Occupational Therapist with the Infants and Toddlers Program, earned her NBCOT Microcredential in Autism! This achievement recognizes nationally board-certified OTR and COTA professionals who have demonstrated advanced knowledge in a focused area of practice.

To earn this microcredential, Leslie successfully completed a challenging, time-based assessment evaluating her knowledge of evidence-based practices and real-world clinical scenarios. Microcredentials are an excellent way to demonstrate specialized knowledge and continued professional growth within the field of occupational therapy.

We are so proud of Leslie for this accomplishment and appreciate the knowledge, expertise, and dedication she brings to the Infants and Toddlers Program!

Blessed Provisions Diaper & Toiletry Bank is a hosting their 2nd Annual Diaper and Hygiene Product Drive/Collection. If you have diapers or toiletry products that you would like to donate please mark your calendar for Saturday, September 19. Maybe you are a family who finally got their toddler trained to use the toilet and you have a box of diapers you no longer need, or you would like to purchase items that other families could use. This is a wonderful way to give back to our community, and we appreciate all that Blessed Provisions Diaper & Toiletry Bank has done for the families we serve at the Frederick County Developmental Center. Staff from our Infants and Toddlers Program and our Dental Clinic will also be present at this event so swing by our table and say hello!
