A co-educational, non-sectarian haven for PreK-8th grade scholars. Join us and experience the Banner School difference!

We’re more than a school; we’re a community fostering lifelong learners in Downtown Frederick. The Banner School is a co-educational, independent school composed of a prekindergarten (4-years-olds), primary school (kindergarten-4th grade), and a middle school for grades 5-8. Its mission is to provide an academically challenging curriculum in a secure environment, to motivate students to achieve to the best of their abilities, and, in so doing, to stimulate a lifelong love of learning.

What was it like to be a Renaissance artist?
Last week in history, 7th grade students got a glimpse into the experience of painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling as they concluded their Renaissance movement study.

Students explored the key features of Renaissance artwork and designed sketches of their own paintings. They then brought their ideas to life by painting above their heads, just as artists did while creating the famous Sistine Chapel ceiling.

This hands-on activity gave students a deeper appreciation for the dedication, skill, and effort required to create many of history’s priceless masterpieces!

Last Friday, our amazing Middle School students wrapped up months of hard work by releasing the trout they raised in science class! It was a beautiful afternoon in Baker Park as they released the trout, helped clean up litter along the way, and enjoyed a quick stop at the playground before heading back to school. It was the perfect way to end a busy week and celebrate hands‑on learning in action!

Pre-K at The Banner School is a little mix of everything — curiosity, confidence-building, and plenty of joyful exploration! 📚🚌

One standout advantage is our location, just a short walk from Baker Park. When the weather cooperates, our students head over for nature walks, outdoor learning, and movement-based activities that bring classroom concepts to life.

For families considering Banner, this blend of structured early learning and real-world discovery is a big part of what makes our Pre-K program special. Children build a strong academic foundation for kindergarten readiness while also developing social skills, independence, and a genuine love of learning through hands-on experiences. It’s an environment where young learners feel known, supported, and excited to come to school each day!
