MBRI exists to help educators get there. Today is International Literacy Day! 📚

MBRI has over 100 years of experience providing dyslexia education and support to students and educators! We're happy to announce new projects underway to bring literacy education to Frederick, MD.

This old joke is often told at the expense of us dyslexics, but is it a case of ‘truth in humour’ or is it closer to the mark?
As a dyslexic that loves to read, this joke can definitely be true some of the time, but are blanket statements like this offensive, or just a lighthearted dig at the dyslexia stereotypes?

Turn your learning into an official transcript. 📜

Did you know you can earn official Continuing Education Units (CEUs) just by listening to MBRI's webinar and telesummit series — on your own schedule?

MBRI has partnered with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA, to offer CEUs for participants in our online educational programs. A CEU is a standard unit of measurement for noncredit continuing education — one CEU equals ten contact hours of participation in an approved event. (Note: CEUs are separate from undergraduate/graduate university credit — they document your professional learning, not college coursework.)

Here's how it works with our two program tracks:

🎧 Webinar Series — "Keys to Unlocking Educational Success"
Listen to all six one-hour interviews in this series and complete a short evaluation form to earn .6 CEU credits, for a $30 processing fee paid to VCU.

🎧 Telesummit Series — "Transforming Education"
Listen to all 22 one-hour+ interviews and complete an evaluation form to earn 2.3 CEU credits, also for a $30 processing fee.

Both series are fully prerecorded, so there's no live schedule to work around — start anytime, listen at your own pace, and revisit them as often as you'd like.

How to get credit:

Listen to the full webinar or telesummit series
Complete an evaluation form, writing three specific learning takeaways referencing the speakers
Send it to [email protected]
Once processed with VCU, your official CEU transcript will be available through VCU's Office of Continuing and Professional Education

A few things worth knowing before you enroll: CEUs are non-refundable once purchased, and it's on you to confirm with your certifying/licensing body that VCU's CEUs will count toward your specific renewal requirements — MBRI and VCU aren't the certifying agency, so acceptance varies.

Whether you're a teacher, interventionist, or lifelong learner deepening your understanding of dyslexia and structured literacy, this is a flexible, low-lift way to keep growing and have something official to show for it.

5 Types of Teachers You’ll Meet After the First Week Back 👀

Summer is over. The archetypes have returned.

THE OVER-PREPARED PLANNER 📋

Their lesson plans have lesson plans.

They’ve got color-coded calendars, laminated everything, and probably know what they’re teaching in November.

Respectfully… how?

THE EXHAUSTED ZOMBIE 🧟

They came back with good intentions.

Those intentions lasted approximately 2.5 days.

Now they’re surviving on caffeine, snacks, and the memory of who they were in June.

THE INTERIOR DECORATOR 🪴

“I just want to make my classroom feel a little nicer.”

Translation: new bulletin boards, rearranged desks, plants, posters, labels, and an entirely new classroom aesthetic.

They said a little. They meant EVERYTHING. 🛍️🤑

THE SUMMER REMINISCER ☀️

Every conversation somehow leads back to summer.

“The beach was beautiful…”

“I slept until 9…”

“I went to this little café…”

They may be physically back at school, but spiritually? Still on vacation.

THE POLICY PROTESTER 📢

They read the new policies.

They highlighted the new policies.

They have questions about the new policies.

And they are absolutely prepared to discuss those questions.
