August is our favorite month to slow down. We spend these first weeks welcoming each child gently, letting them settle in, find their people, and get comfortable in their new space.

We also spend a lot of time learning about you. Families share photos and stories so every child knows: we're all here together. You are known. You are safe. You belong here.

There's something about the last weeks of summer that feels both slow and fast at the same time.

Before the backpacks come out and the routines kick in — put the phone down. Lie in the grass with them. Say yes to one more popsicle. Let the day stretch out longer than it should.

They won't remember the errands you ran. They'll remember that you were there.

Digging through dirt for hidden dinosaurs isn't just fun — it's building the muscles they'll need for writing. ✋

Our teachers love sensory bins for a reason: scooping, pouring, and squeezing builds fine motor strength, while hiding letters or shapes inside sneaks in early literacy and math without it ever feeling like "work."

Try it at home this summer:

Fill a bin with rice or dry beans and hide small toys, letters, or shapes for a scavenger hunt.

Sponge "water transfer" — move water between two containers using only a sponge.

Cut pool noodles into "donuts" use shaving cream as icing and pompoms as sprinkles - decorate, wash and repeat.

Simple, mess-contained(ish), and genuinely good for their development.

Dirt on their hands, sun on their face — this is learning too. 🌳

Outdoor time isn't just a break from the classroom. Running, climbing, and exploring builds balance and coordination, problem-solving, and the kind of focus that's hard to find sitting still.

Some of our favorite lessons don't happen at a table — they happened on the playground.
