Hi, I'm Rebecca, and I want to help you be successful in your high school biology class, college biochemistry or genetics class, or reach your perfect score on the ACT, GRE, or SAT. I love teaching science because I absolutely love science, especially biology. I think it's the coolest thing ever, and if you asked my students they would say my enthusiasm is contagious! I try to make learning it fun
by engaging a student's natural curiosity. Science is all around us, and I teach by relating abstract concepts to things we can experience every day. My goal as your tutor is to help you become an active learner and think independently. We will break down the content into pieces, and then build it back up so you can understand both the details and big picture. Along the way, I will teach you strategies to allow you to process the content on your own. I want you to understand the "why" instead of just the "what". That will enable you to think critically and build on your knowledge to prevent you from struggling in the future. I have tutored students at the high school, college, and graduate levels. As a licensed high school biology teacher, college TA, and biological research scientist I have both a broad and deep understanding of science content and process as well as training in education. It is one thing to understand, but an entirely different thing to be able to make someone else understand, and I am able to do both. Before becoming a teacher, I was a cellular biologist at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute and Vanderbilt University. Through conducting research, I have developed strong critical thinking skills and the ability for creative problem solving. It also gives me the opportunity to bring the science to life by providing examples, experiments, and other cool stuff from my own experience. I have a Master's of Science degree in biological sciences from Vanderbilt University, a bachelor's of science in cell biology/biochemistry from Bucknell University, and I completed education coursework at Lipscomb University.
