HELP EXPAND HOME-BASED CHILD CARE ACROSS VIRGINIA

U-LAUNCH: Childhood Development Homes has submitted its state license-renewal application requesting the capacity to approve up to 200 home-based child care programs—representing as many as 1,800 additional child care slots across Virginia.

Now, we are looking for partners who are ready to help us put boots on the ground.

We want to collaborate with:

✅ Child care and early childhood leaders
✅ Independent contractors and community-based professionals
✅ Workforce and economic development organizations
✅ Local governments and economic development authorities
✅ Community colleges and workforce training providers
✅ Faith-based and nonprofit organizations
✅ Family-support, housing, and human-services agencies
✅ Organizations serving rural and underserved communities

Our goal is to identify, prepare, and support qualified individuals who want to establish approved home-based child care programs in communities experiencing child care shortages, service gaps, and child care deserts.

Through collaboration, we can:

• Recruit prospective Childcare Educator Operators™
• Help individuals navigate business formation and program approval
• Provide local outreach, technical assistance, and ongoing support
• Connect home-based programs with workforce and community resources
• Create new child care capacity while expanding entrepreneurship and employment opportunities

From her humble beginnings in Tennessee, she showed the world what faith, determination, generosity, and staying true to yourself could accomplish.

Through her timeless music and the millions of books placed into the hands of children through her Imagination Library, Dolly’s influence will continue for generations.

When should an early childhood professional learn the standards that govern their work?

This is a question I've been thinking about.

In Virginia, child care is a state-regulated profession. From the first day an individual begins working as a Child Care Aide, Assistant Teacher, Assistant Provider, Apprentice, or other early childhood professional, they are expected to follow the Virginia standards applicable to their role.

So here's my question:

If an entry-level credential can take months—or even one to two years—to complete, when should employees learn the state standards they are already expected to implement?

Should they learn them:
Before entering the profession?
While working?
Or only after completing a credential?

To me, this isn't about whether foundational child development is important. It absolutely is.

The question is whether professional preparation should begin with the standards that govern professional practice from day one.

As professional responsibility increases, educational preparation should also increase. But the pathway should remain intentionally aligned with:
State licensing standards
State early learning and development standards
State professional competencies
State quality initiatives
Supervised professional practice

A competency-based educational pathway should prepare professionals not only to understand child development, but also to successfully operate within the regulatory framework governing the profession.

That's one of the principles behind the Childcare Educator Operator™ model.

I'm interested in hearing from regulators, higher education, workforce development professionals, child care leaders, and educators.

Should educational pathways in a state-regulated profession be intentionally aligned with the standards that govern professional practice from the very beginning of a person's career?

4. $100 Registration fee per child (unless received Subsidy) must notify case worker of my vendor info

Additionally you will be expected to seek our 1-hour orientation upon approval. This can be done in-person or teams.
