Thank you to Bin Franklin and cityoffranklintn sanitation department for coming out and answering the children’s questions about recycling!
We learned lots about how recycling helps the environment we live in and we even got to see the recycling truck up close!

During morning meeting today, children in our PreK classes talked about what they would like a good friend to look like and created this anchor chart based on their answers. Everyone was challenged to treat each other as they would want a good friend to treat them, and we recalled the book we read yesterday, “Do Unto Otters” by Laurie Keller.
They also practiced being a good friend as they played together and worked together to create a group mural!

Friday (9-25) was Dolly Parton Day and we celebrated this great woman by wearing pink, sequins, denim, coloring with pink, reading our favorite Imagination Library book and spreading kindness!

Children love to share about their families and that includes the animal members!!
As we explored our Unit of Inquiry that focuses on family, the PreK students were invited to bring their pet for our PreK Pet Show!
The rest of the school had the opportunity to come out and see all the animals. We had dogs and a gecko join us this year!
On top of learning about our friends’ pets this is a great opportunity to learn how to approach an animal you don’t know as well as gentle touches.

The children in The Boardwalk class of our PreK Program practiced using a ten frame as a tool to help them count, they also practiced using measurement language such as more or fewer to describe how much they had. They also reviewed counting one-to-one and counted a mystery number of dots!

Kindergarten readiness can show up in everyday moments, not just big milestones. A few signals to notice:

1. They’re building confidence to try things independently. Examples: walking into a room first, asking for help, or giving something new a try.

2. They’re starting to recognize the letters in their name, even if they’re not reading just yet.

3. They’re showing care and responsibility at home. This could include things like helping pack a bag, feeding a pet, putting away toys, or getting through part of their routine with a little more ease.

Every child grows at their own pace - and readiness looks different for every family. Their preschool teachers can be a great partner in noticing strengths, celebrating progress, and helping you think through what comes next.
