Last week our Chief Digital Officer, Mark Phillips, spoke on a panel at the ARA Summer Roundtable covering AI and industry updates, and shared some great insights with the room.

Great takeaways included:

On AI, the best way to learn it is to jump in and use it. Play around, test it, see what it can and cannot do. It is also built to sound confident, so take its answers, especially numbers, with a grain of salt and verify before you rely on them.

On the vehicles coming through the lanes, more EVs are showing up in consignments, and consignors are looking for auctions with the infrastructure to handle them. At the same time, features once unique to EVs, like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and subscription services, are showing up on gas powered vehicles too. The June 2026 update to the NAAA Arbitration Guidelines now addresses these features directly.

Great conversations all around, and a good reminder that our industry keeps evolving on more than one front at once. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to talk shop with Mark!

At Clare Auto Auction in Clare, Michigan, inspections aren't run by auction staff. They're handled by Nick Fritz, a mechanic at a dealership four miles away, a setup that works because CRS makes it possible to extend real inspection access to trusted partners, not just internal teams.

Last Thursday morning, Nick was set up with a username, password, and role in CRS. He had never used the platform before. He logged in and started working immediately. No walkthrough. No onboarding call. He opened the menu, ran the inspection, and passed and failed vehicles correctly on the first attempt!

That is the bar we build to. If someone can pick up CRS cold and use it right the first time, the product is doing its job.

Asked what he'd change about the system, Nick said his only complaint was that he wished he'd had it years ago.

America's Auto Auction Savannah just marked 30 years in business, and the milestone says a lot about how the auction operates.

Under Katie Polk's leadership, the team has built a reputation for making the buying and selling process simple. Dealers consistently point to the same thing: it's easy to do business with this team. That kind of consistency over three decades doesn't happen by accident. It comes from a staff that shows up, solves problems, and treats every interaction like it matters.

Here's to the next 30!

What a two days in Kansas City! 🎸🚗

Our team hit the lanes at America's Auto Auction Kansas City's Guitars & Cars event, and it did not disappoint. Two full days of talking pipeline with dealers, handing out swag, and getting to know the inspector team on the ground. Lots of great conversations about what's working on the lot and where we can help make things easier for buyers and sellers alike.

And the cherry on top? Closing out day one with Lynyrd Skynyrd tearing up the stage, a fitting soundtrack for a couple of days spent celebrating the people who keep this industry running.

Huge shout out to Doug Doll and the entire team at America's Auto Auction Kansas City for putting on an outstanding event and being such great hosts. From the logistics to the hospitality, everything about this event showed how much care goes into building relationships with dealers and partners.

Grateful for events like this, great people, great energy, and great conversations.

The biggest risk on most independent dealer lots isn't a bad bid.

It's a single sourcing channel.

Most dealers default to one primary channel, usually whichever they learned first.

When that channel performs, sourcing feels easy. When it slows down (bad week, seasonal shift, regional supply issue), the lot feels it immediately. Wholesale market conditions have shifted significantly in recent years. Regional supply patterns have changed. A sourcing channel that worked reliably in 2022 may look different in 2026.

Single channel exposure is the quiet risk on most lots. It's hard to see until the channel goes cold.

Small team, big hustle!

Last week, Morgan visited America's Auto Auction Baton Rouge, and it was great to see this team in action.

They may run lean, but everyone leans in, pitching in wherever needed to get the job done. That kind of teamwork is what makes a sale run smoothly.

Thank you to Andy Poteet and Mike McCollum for having me out. Always a great visit.

Congratulations to Renee Torina on her retirement! 🎉

Last week, Morgan visited America's Auto Auction New Orleans for Renee's final sale. What a way to go out!

The sale runs like clockwork, with a genuinely great team in place. There's exciting change on the horizon too, with a new Post Sale process launching in a few weeks and new reports already helping the team operate more efficiently.

One of the ways Renee made a difference was by grilling burgers for dealers and team members at lunch, always asking how their day was. This week marked her last time behind the grill, chef's hat and all.

Thank you, Renee, for everything you've built here. Enjoy the next chapter!

Two lots running the same $200K inventory budget. Same average gross per deal.

Lot A: 45-day average time-to-sale. ~$192K annual gross.

Lot B: 30-day average time-to-sale. ~$288K annual gross.

Same capital. Same margin per deal. 50% more annual production for Lot B.

That gap is time-to-sale. And one of the biggest levers on it is sourcing speed. The faster you can replace what just sold, the fresher your front line stays. Fresh inventory turns faster. The compounding builds from there.

Every independent dealer knows this rhythm.

Monday: lot looks full. Sourced over the weekend.
Tuesday: still full. Sales flowing.
Wednesday: a few cars sold. Lot looks thinner.
Thursday: hoping Friday's auction has the right vehicles.
Friday: bid on seven. Won three.
Saturday: thin lot again.
Then repeat.

The inventory gap isn't a bidding problem. It's an availability problem. Sourcing in batches and selling every day don't always line up, and the difference shows up on the front line.

A 12-vehicle lot running at 8 vehicles for three days a week is operating at 67% capacity. Every empty slot is a customer who walked past instead of in.

The dealers running their fullest lots aren't the ones with the biggest budgets. They're the ones whose sourcing rhythm matches their selling rhythm.

What a week! Morgan was on site this week at Mid Kansas Auto Auction for their Big Annual Event Sale / Customer Appreciation Event, and it did not disappoint.

Behind every sale is a team that puts in the work: transport, check in, CR writers, mechanics, the detail crew, sales, titles, and of course the auctioneers who bring it home when the hammer drops. This crew put in long days to make it happen.

Add a concert in the parking lot the night before to the mix, and you've got a little extra pressure on top of the fun, but the team pulled it off and delivered a great event for everyone involved.

Great to catch up with Jiles Wanna from TPC Management Company while we were there too!Huge thanks to Mark Ottley for the invite, always a great time at Mid Kansas Auto Auction.
