With excellence and commitment, ICS serves urban American Indian students and their families so that each student develops the skills and knowledge to sustain a healthy balance of American Indian culture, academic achievement, and a sense of identity through indigenous teachings and wa

ys of learning. (ICS) is a private, faith-based, inter-tribal school that began in the homes of three courageous Oneida mothers in 1969. From these humble beginnings, ICS has been serving the American Indian community of metro Milwaukee for over 50 years, providing our youth with a unique learning experience. Our mission is to cultivate an enduring cultural identity and critical thinking by weaving indigenous teachings with a distinguished learning environment. The 364 students enrolled for the 2022-2023 school year representing over 230 families. The tribal affiliations of our student body consist of all Wisconsin tribes as well as other federally recognized tribes, with over 40 tribal nations in total. We employ over 100 dedicated staff members with the majority of them being full-time. We have 58 instructional staff who teach our students and Mr. Jason Dropik, who is a Bad River tribal member, is our School Administrator.

ICS is pleased to welcome Phillip Spearo as our new Director of Human Resources. Phillip brings extensive experience in human resources, employee relations, organizational culture, and leadership development to our school. He spent eight years with Acelero Learning, an early childhood education organization, where he served as Senior Vice President of People. Most recently, he served as Employee Relations Manager for Rehlko, formerly Kohler Energy. Phillip also has an important connection to ICS, having served as our Interim HR Director in 2022-2023. He holds a law degree from Seattle University School of Law and is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin. Phillip brings a genuine ability to connect with people to his role here at the school. We are pleased to have him back at ICS!
